Add a couple of scrub trees in the vacant lot, and the deadfall will be right at home.  Either that or replace the limbs with more human detritus, such as worn out pallets, rusty appliances, etc.  A sodden mattress or two would also be pretty typical for that zip code... You could also build up an abandoned loading platform, or put an abandoned vehicle or two in the mud.

One question that might pose a challenge... how do you plan to model the endless crop of Walmart bags that always end up in fields like that?  (and in trees, shrubs, gutters, etc...)

Lee

It definitely needs more human detritus. I don't think abandoned cars are in order, but definitely a bunch of trash.

I'm thinking of using some tiny shards of shredded paper (probably from junk mail to get some color).

I'm also thinking of some old shopping carts too.

Rod, I haven't done snow, but I'm thinking about a little on future projects.

I highly recommend checking out the Rand Hood article in model railroader (from a long time ago) and the ones that Mike Danneman has more recently done in N Scale Railroading.
Thanks for that Ed, I have no access to those mags at the moment so I will see if any mates have them. I do recall seeing something Mike did a way back however.
Rod.

When you order them, Ed, I'll take two of those carts...  I'll trade you some pallets.

No, it's for Edith Massey to push up and down Broadway to re-stock Edith's Shopping Bag.

I know the scope of the city modeling thing has gotten you down in the past Ed but I think it's coming together quite nicely.  There is a "cold" look about it.  Probably your choice of landscaping colors.  Well done.

Thanks!

You'll have to come see it before it's gone. Which won't be long, actually.

The rest of the progress you guys are going to see is likely going to be toward getting certain scenes ready for one final photo shoot (and maybe ops session, we'll see about that) before it comes down to sell the house.

And after you move, are you switching to HO scale like everybody else who did?

Not switching. Just ALSO getting into.

I've got a couple of N scale projects up my sleeve though. I'm not abandoning my birthright...lol.

I am planning taking a little break from the NCR though to explore some other stuff. I've realized I've bought a bunch of PC crap lately and I think I'm going to do something with it. I'm thinking a PC focused TTRAK layout with my parents (and other fools I can loop in).
