Is that 3D printed out of ice cream?

Lol. No.

It was a laser cut test shot done by someone who scaled an HO version down and hit print (with no other conversion work) to see how it'd turn out.

He painted it and put it together, but it was collecting dust on his shelf, so it came to live with me.

It's far from great, but better than the painted (maybe) block of styrofoam that would've otherwise been a stand in in the scene.

Ed I'm really liking your winter scenery. Not to many of us are game enough to have a go at doing one.
I'm planning on doing something similar to my new yet to be started HOn3 layout.
I am planning on doing some snow also after watching Woodland Scenics snow video on YouTube it looks pretty darn nice.
Have you planned to add any snow?
That will be a test for me as I have modeled in N since 1969 so setting out track dims etc should give my old brain a workout.

Rod, I haven't done snow, but I'm thinking about a little on future projects.

I highly recommend checking out the Rand Hood article in model railroader (from a long time ago) and the ones that Mike Danneman has more recently done in N Scale Railroading.

Speaking of prototype inspiration... ...looking out at the field next to the studio here, unless you're portraying hurricane aftermath, the deadfall next to Josh's gon is too large to be any distance from trees. Great idea, tough challenge to find natural materials for it.

The tower looks really good for a stand in. Could the roof be cut off and replaced?..The structure itself looks good enough to keep, but the warped roof detracts from an otherwise reasonable model...You did nail the colors though, reminds me of the weathered copper on the derelict Springfield, Ma, tower:

Well depending on the scale I guess one might consider them too narrow and the ties too close together

Add a couple of scrub trees in the vacant lot, and the deadfall will be right at home.  Either that or replace the limbs with more human detritus, such as worn out pallets, rusty appliances, etc.  A sodden mattress or two would also be pretty typical for that zip code... You could also build up an abandoned loading platform, or put an abandoned vehicle or two in the mud.

One question that might pose a challenge... how do you plan to model the endless crop of Walmart bags that always end up in fields like that?  (and in trees, shrubs, gutters, etc...)
