Conrail Windsor St Yard (York PA) Engineering Report

I've also been a recipient of one of the pieces of Lee's WM that have scattered to the wind.

I got the piece that we collectively designed: his Hagerstown Yard. I just couldn't let it go to the dumpster.

A few weeks ago it made the trek from the Eastern Shore (of MD) and found its way to my basement.

I had to wait on some carpet replacement, but I was finally able to start making progress tonight.

In my planned configuration, it's not going to need the lower level (even though it contained one of my favorite scenes on his layout), so I had to separate that from the main yard deck above. I was afraid it'd be a lot of work, but it turns out it was only a few screws, had to clip three wires, and they separated nice and cleanly.



Next up, I have to build some benchwork to form the supports. I'm thinking an open grid that I'll use as the basis for my lower "lip" layer. I'll attach the risers from the yard to that, and it should be up on its feet.

And we can all run trains on the foam kidney that are Ed's Law complaint (9 locomotives mixed across eras with 4 cars and 3 cabesse each) - just to prove the point!

I'm working on drawing up the benchwork now. Once I've got that figured out, I'll schedule a work session. They'll definitely be needed, since having some proper woodworking tools will be really helpful. I feel like a chop saw will make really quick work of the relatively simple benchwork I'll need for the "barn raising".

Lol, that's my wife's old stereo system from High School. It had a bunch of late 90s stuff on it, including some more exciting ones that aren't visible in the photos...

And Phil, you can come back then too. There's going to be plenty of work to do...

I'm still astounded at how perfectly it fits into your basement.

Looks like over to the left you're going to have to add a stringer to secure the west yard throat to the main superstructure.  Too bad you couldn't use that helix.  Maybe there's another taker out there somewhere.
Greenwood was one of my favorite scenes, too.



Afterall, it was home to the Hard Hat!

Don't worry, I think the helix may find new life down the other end feeding the staging yard.

I'm thinking about how I can keep Greenwood alive in some capacity. I make sure to make sure that it all separated nice and cleanly. Also, I just discovered the upside to the "structure standardization" that happens in N scale. I think I have all the non-Hardhat kits that filled up the space, if I am able to reuse it.
