This was my buddies layout, where he depicted Kearney, NE on the UP mainline.  90% staging, 10% the town of Kearney.  A railfan's perfect layout.  He added some additional staging inside the lobes for the local branches.

Ignoring Lee's protests... progress continues.

Benchwork in progress:

Covered in foam:

York starting to be laid out:

Phase 3 Benchwork pieces:

My plan is for the layout to live on top of my workbench, which I decided needed a proper frame instead of the sawhorses it's been using. I started construction, then noticed a problem...

But fear not, that's why I've just been using screws (and no glue). Here's the frame ready to be mounted under the door that currently serves as the bench. I think I'm going to paint it prior to installation though. I'm thinking just flat black. I'm also thinking about adding some shelves on the left and right "units".

Don't know if this has been asked before but are you going to have  a WM interchange?

Yes... kinda. By my era, it's Chessie, and it'll happen via a small Chessie train that'll run into the yard, swap cars, and then leave.

At least that will add a little variety.

Oh yeah. Gonna have that AND the Maryland Midland showing up too. That's why I'm so glad this happened...

If you had a duplicate of the other one, I'd help you out.

Just did a search on eBay, nothing on right now, but #302 sold a while back on Buy It Now for $120 !!  :scared:  As well as Precision Masters 2-bay covered hoppers for over $15/each.  :?

In other news, I also saw this...

Might need to pick that up and sit at end of a siding in York.

:-) I've already got a pair of em. They'll end up being set off to interchange at the siding where the BX-166 and PC car are. Even though the track orientation is mirrored here from reality, that's the lead to "Poorhouse Yard" and the MA & PA interchange.

The desk frame has been braced, had shelves added, and painted.

The thinking man would make those shelves to a dimension that can accommodate some prefab plastic storage tubs, or those little units with the drawers... ideal for sorting and storing your junk.

That's a good thought.
I don't have any of them around though.
What I should've done, in retrospect... was do them to the dimensions of the Ikea tubs I use everwhere. Oh well, it's just a few screws if I find it annoying.

Oh yeah, with the assistance of my lovely wife, and much cursing, it's in place.
