Sadly, it's gone now.

Didn't there used to be a string of those down there, along the 'canal'?  I used to have pics of them.

Years ago there was a string of them in siding just west of Rt 30 bypass, west of Kinard and Frito Lay

So this just occurred to me last night.

I need to include crossovers from the front main to the back main right there at the north end yard throat.

I had thought it was in the yard itself, like the south end, but it's not. I think that part had been on north junction that I don't have.

Any chance that can get shoe horned in there too?

I don't either. In fact, I'm pretty sure it won't, because of the curve back I need to do.

The great irony is that I almost don't need the crossover I've got, but really need the one I don't have, so a local from the yard can cross over to work Harley Davidson. I could just make them make the reverse move through the existing crossovers, but I'd still be stuck if I had a train that had to work the yard, and then proceed north while the local is occupying track 1.

The NC crossover was used quite a lot to get from the westbound main into the yard.  Probably the same scenario you need.  The other crossover behind the fuel rack was to allow trains to use the long "controlled siding" (the outermost track around the back perimeter) in both directions.  It also gave me a run-around track for working the industrial sidings at NC.

Ed,
Did this crossover get preserved?  It may be facing point for your needs if it is, but I would think if its still in place it should do the trick.

Oh yeah, that's still there. For some reason, I thought the full set was on what I have, but wasn't (as you can see in the photo: it's under the overpass).

And Lee's hit it exactly why I need it.

I think it'd be fun to tie up that part of the layout like that. Forcing the reverse move is very "Conrail 1977", but it's not "Conrail 1985".
I can live with it as it is, if it won't fit in, but if it will, I want to try and include it.

Or, hell, maybe I'll just say screw it and single track from the yard all the way to Mt Wolf and just leave a tail of that second track in to allow access to HD. THAT would be very "Conrail 1985"...

I was just thinking about signal requirements here, and like the real railroad, single tracking that stretch and making Mt Wolf's siding hand-throws saves a bunch on that.

The more I think about that, the more I'm starting to really like that approach. It'll make life more difficult for the local crew, since their work will tie up the whole railroad, but that's kinda accurate.

My Esteemed Colleague Mr. DK Smith, could you make a version reflecting that approach?
