Ok boys I have been working on a work bench area to get some modeling done.  Rearranged some cabinets, put up plywood on the walls, ran electrical. installed under cabinet lights and a larger overhead light. Also dropped some floor tile down to make it a bit finished off.  I found the spray booth for $15 at a garage sale a few years ago.

An old Alco would definitely have the weight to push through snow. I saw one like this once before. The Cape Breton Development Co. (Devco) Ry had a complete RS1 turned into a snowplow. All they did was add the pilot plow and a couple of wings to the sides, and it went to work as a plow, cab and all.

I don't know if it kept its own prime mover, though. Maybe, because they would need a power source and an air source to operate the  plow wings.

Was too late for last week's WU (or I think it's kinda silly to continue it alllllllll week  ), so here are some photos from our Silicon Valley Free-moN setup at the Great Train Expo in Santa Clara, CA.
There are actually quite a few asshats captured on film (enpixilated?).













Many of our participants with modules this year first saw us at the same show last year!
We ended up with over 30 modules from 15 members and over 300 feet of mainline circuit!
(Now we really need an ops plan!  )

Just gotta paint my G22b classes.
It took some tinkering for the trucks and coupler. Taking Bryan's suggestion, I used MTL Andrews trucks but they still would not sit right. The wheels would not clear that cross rib so I had to clip it out. Even if the car body was resting on top of the truck, it still was fouling the wheel. I also used the brass coupler shims to shim the trucks from riding too low.  I don't know if I did something wrong or not, but I think it worked out in the end.
Here is a shot with my F25 for ride height comparison. Hopefully once I finish assembling my third F25 I will paint these gons at the same time.
 





Looking at this shot reminded me that these trucks are offset and I need to turn one of them around.

I've been working on a WM DRS 4-4-1500.  Hopefully the drive and final decal sheet will be here tomorrow, and I will be able to finish this little project!

Just finished restaging after today's ops session for tomorrow morning's op session.  One down, two to go. Layout did well...and thx to Gary Hinshaw for home road support with all the Nelson sub trains.

Here is this week's work...5 mile creek and Anderson creek (still in progress as I ran out of trees!).

Wow! That has to be the most realistic and convincing fast moving water I've ever seen! Very well done!!

If I was converting a working locomotive to a snowplow I'd probably leave it self-propelled for several reasons:

It could be easily turned back into a standard locomotive if needed, especially in the summer.

It could be moved under its own power rather than needing to be towed for servicing or relocating.

Even if it needs more units pushing to do the plowing, why not use the tractive effort and save the cost of another unit.

As long as the cab is functional, you save the cost of a second crew for the pushers.

Of course, if the loco has already been gutted for parts, there's no sense restoring it, and the strength and weight of the chassis alone would make a good plow.

After completing the build of three MLW M-630 locomotives a few weeks ago, I turned them over to friend Jeff Briggs for painting and weathering.  He was able to get them completed in time for them to make an appearance at last weekend's train show in Victoria.  From L to R, previously completed C-630M BCR 701, and M-630s BCR 708, PGE 710 and BCR 717:




The three locomotives were then turned over to friend Dave Mackinnon for the installation of decoders and lighting.  I will be able to take better photographs of them once I get them back.

Working on the colours for my ore hopper fleet, the one on the right is the combination of the other 2, thinking I might need a proper brown and a darker red.

More super structure work completed this week on the D&H.
The narrow 3mm MDF is just temporary so I can get a feel for isle widths etc.
