The requirement for 25 posts before you get additional functionality exists primarily to filter those who register simply to sell something.  It also encourages folks to contribute rather than simply lurk.

Joe is, of course, joking...  Real world railroad experience is exactly the kind of prototypical information we celebrate here.  After all, we strive to make our little trains not only look, but operate, like the big ones.  Welcome aboard!

There's railroading on the west coast?

Weird.

Yeah it looks something like this:

A little more cheap and spindly than what you're used to:

Note too that we run prototype trains instead of models. ;)

yea..we don't have to hole up in our mom's basements to run our trains...we got plenty of room to do it outside in the sunlight.  Had the Lenz decoder for my new CF7 delivered on a flatcar, now I gotta figure out how to get the shell off it. :)  Where did I leave that overhead crane...

:D

If there weren't any RRs out West Coast you easterners would be eating mostly meat during the winter months because you all would have very little fruit & all kinds of other produce! And where do you think all those PFE, ATSF & other western reefers come from - Maine? LOL

LAJ HOUSE & TURNTABLE MAP ROM JOHN SIGNOR

I have the drawings for that shed as well and have figured out, via Google Earth where it goes on the pad that still exists.  You can just make out the foundation line for the angled section of the workspace.  I was wondering if the pit was inside or out..looks like inside.  Thanks for the tip on the turntable...I don't see where a roundhouse was...do you know if there was one?

Cheers

Joe

You have to look at historicaerials.com to see the house tracks. Here's a  portion of a LAJ map John Signor sent me. It shows the LAJ House Tracks including the Engine House & the Turntable. They aren't on the same track so can't really call it a roundhouse

Back at it after moving to Santa Fe Springs CA. The attached plan is again by Rob Chant who is offering free layout planning services thru Railroad Line Forums. This plan is based on the LAJ Horn Lead w/ some changes to allow more car variety & temporary car storage. Yes it is very compressed but then so it the real LAJ!

Don't think that's the same Anthony Macaroni Building as on the LAJ. Especially because of that multi story building. Look up 4722 Everett Ave & 4350 District Bl 90058 to see both buildings. Have walked those tracks & neither look like that.
