Do We Have An A$$Hat Living In Bakersfield?

Do we have an A$$Hat living in Bakersfield that would be willing to take a few measurements of a ATSF Signal bridge before it is torn down?

The bridge is east of the yard on Edison Hwy
https://www.google.com/maps?q=bakersfield,+ca&hl=en&ll=35.36826,-118.955728&spn=0.000749,0.001032&sll=27.698638,-83.804601&sspn=18.69296,33.815918&t=h&hnear=Bakersfield,+Kern,+California&z=21&layer=c&cbll=35.36826,-118.955728&panoid=d83Vo1dahgCrgwK8iPikaw&cbp=12,10.7,,0,0

If so, please email me directly at  sales @ traincat2 .com

Thanks

Just be accurate, Bob, that's a UP (ex-SP) signal bridge. ATSF tracks don't start until Kern Junction, which IIRC are the next set of signals to the west.

UP, I stand corrected. that signal does match this one (#3151):
http://www.redoveryellow.com/signals/tehachapi/T074_West_3151_46149.jpg

If I move east a little in street view and look back, I can see the lattice bents, but I can not read the #. Maybe because SF shared the loop with SP would be reason I found really rough drawings of it with SF notations. I have been searching for this little bugger for months. Eric Hass clued me in on the location.

Yeah, Eric's documentation of especially ex-SP signal installations are absolutely priceless. I've had his site bookmarked for years!

If no one comes forth, I will volunteer to fly there myself and take measurements.   ;)

And if you build it Bob, I will buy it and find a spot on the pike for it.  This section of the line is quasi-hidden on my pike, but it's still visible enough that it would make a sensible sentry for my Bakersfield staging yard.

Hey, Bob - here's Eric's shot of the backside of this bridge. It was hidden in the "other signals" page:

Here's a few drawings of the 3-track SP bridge at Quantico:

Gary - LOL!!

Mike - I saw it, just soooooo different.

Marc - I have a copy of these courtesy of Tim Masyln. They don't show the construction and dims of the A-Frame components. I was hoping that we had someone from the forum that lives there or frequents Bakersfield to get those. I could wing it, but I rather be correct.

The bridge days are numbered, Bob, so hopefully someone nearby will step up to the plate.

Cheers!

If it was closer I would I really enjoy measuring and drawing up the old railroad structures I've done dozens of the old B&O, W&LE and Pennsy along with Erie, mainly bridges and some cars and buildings.

Someone has stepped up and offered to take a few measurements.

So now I am starting the research on the Signal Bridges on the Donner Pass route. Some very nice ones on this line.

Thanks everyone.

Too bad I don't still live in Bakersfield.  I used to live about three miles from that signal.  My father worked for the Santa Fe as a freight conductor between Bakersfield and Barstow for forty two years.  I'd hate to guess how many times he may have passed under it.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I do not intend to insult anyone, but why would someone live in or near Bakersfield ?    Trains be damned .. it's too damn hot !

Living in Bakersfield, you get use to the heat. No real humidity. A 98 degree day becomes a "mild summer day".  We could never understand why people would live in Milwaukee, St. Paul, Chicago or Buffalo.  No thanks to anywhere where you have to bury the water pipes four foot in the ground.

So the trains were just icing on the cake. :)

Says somebody who lives in Bakersfield.  I grew up in Mojave and Lancaster, before the aqueduct raised the humidity in the AV by 20%. Bakersfield was too humid for us. Always felt yukky there.

But then y'all don't have the wind. How windy? When I was kid I built a kite out of a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" ply. It flew. Dangerous as heck, but it flew.  :scared:
