I wonder if these are going to be shipped in packages like the Maxi's and Bethgons?  That would make it harder to sell individual cars that folks don't need.  I'm a little surprised at the low MSRP on a 4-car set as well, but in a good way.

So looks like Lou was right about the FEMA death camp cars...couldn't find the pic from the other thread...but oh well.

I like the others would only want a single car.  Have a feeling there will be lots of broken up sets on ebay shortly after these cars hit the market.

Even if they are too modern for me...wonder how hard it would be to convert the Amtrak's to phase III or maybe keep them in the Phase IVb, as there are no stripes on this run...make it a "west coast auto train"

I wonder if the model can be taken apart and if so if someone will be producing etched sides to replace the Kato sides with the printed on perforations for CP & CN versions.

From the Kato website:
Modern appearance matching the Amtrak body style (CP and CN versions will use finely printed detail to replicate the perforations along the side of the body).

Wonder if anyone will make any with markings painted on?  :P

With holes comes the need for something to look at through the holes.

That is the only drawback to the Red Caboose racks, you can see that there is nothing loaded in them.

How would one weather around painted holes (think Athearn Automax)?

Except for the fact that an aluminum car doesn't rust........something like this may work.

There's also the Johnstown America demonstrator schemes... granted, one offs ( and to be honest I think the same car).  I'll have to dig through my photos, I caught the one with an awesomely large JAC logo and Aluminum Vehicle Carrier spelled out almost a decade ago.

Not the greatest photo because cloudy day and my old camera:

http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=nokl790002&o=nokl

2 cars; ex-JACX 2008-2009, later apparently renumbered CP 546375-546376 (immediately following the production series numbers).

Other demo scheme:

The car I caught above would appear to be the former JACX 2009; not sure if either or both of the cars wore both schemes at different points, or if 2008 always had the more minimal scheme, and 2009 had the big splashy scheme right from the start. I've never come across any photos of the cars renumbered with CP numbers though.

CP 546375 is at Woodstock, Ontario, while CP 546376 is on a foreign RR as of Sept 09/13.

How many of these do CN/CP have (I assume more than 8 each???)    Are they assigned to some particular service?

I see 11J the WB NS autorack quite often and have never seen one.  I have seen them
on the Trainorders Sand Patch cam, but not too often.

From a note in Railcarphotos.com:

"CP series 546000-546374 built by Johnstown America, Job 1400-984 & 1400-993, Sep-Dec 2004. "

27 photos of CP here:

Looks like 200 on CN, Nos. CNA 712800-712999 Blt by JAC 6-9/04. There are an earlier 200 cars listed as well, but they're noted as steel construction.
Info from: http://nakina.net/cn/cna.html

CP shows a total of 277, Nos CP 546100-546374 (BLT by JAC 9-12/04), plus the two demo cars, CP 546375-546376.

The previous series, CNA 712600-712799 are indeed "standard" racks; flatcars built by JAC and racks by Thrall.

CP 546000-546099 are also Johnstown aluminum cars of the same design, so 375 plus the two demonstrators.

Thanks - can definitely justify one of each....

What an unexpected surprise for these to be offered, who would have thought....
