In the end I just hope it ends up with someone who will treat it with respect and not a glorified Thomas table for the kids.  As long as its new owner treats it as a model railroad, I'm good...even if that means fixing track kinks and greening up the scenery.

But yeah, I'm thinking if I had this layout, all the same operational shortcomings if the JD just get multiplied by two.  I'm better off spending the cash on upgrading the JD's track to code 55 and making the track arrangements more operations friendly.

Dave:  this has been a very interesting discussion which I have enjoyed from the standpoint of your decision-making process, with significant input from others.  I think you made the right decision.  No looking back, now:  Onward!!

Best regards,
Regards,
Paul

And frankly, I don't see it going for much higher.

$850 could do a lot toward improving the JD.  That's all new track PLUS reconfiguring it into a U shape with a little left over for a signaled interlocking.

I hope the MD finds a worthy home.

Me too.  Yes it's dated, yes it's lost its polish, but it's obviously a successful layout, and it would be neat to see it live on.

It will be interesting to see the final bid. I had bid to a certain point, and have decided it is probably going to go for more than I am prepared to spend. I am sure that in this region there are enough interested buyers to make it interesting.

Same here, I was willing to bid up to a point (especially since it's only a 2 hour drive to pick it up), but now it's just not worth it (to me). Too bad since all I really needed was another layout

Just saw this on N Scale yard!

Layout for sale
Greetings all,
I am the proud owner of Lou Sasi's Mohawk Division N scale layout (see Dec 1993 Model Railroader). It pains me to do this, but I must offer it for sale. I am in the process of building another layout and need to move this one along to someone who can appreciate and maintain this historic layout.

Some of the features of this layout include:

*Comes with the issue it was featured in and several original photos by Lou Sassi.
*Layout runs and operates very well.
*This layout was built on a hollow core door 3' X 7' and has folding legs with casters.

*All track is all Peco code 55.
*Switch tracks are all manual with fascia mounted knobs.
*Scenery base is made from foam and for it's size is very light weight. Scenery could use a little freshening, but still looks great.

*The layout was built for DC operation, however, after 20 years the MRC power packs have ceased to work properly.

*I have set it up with a Digitraxx Zephyr DCC system (included).
*Structures are all included. Some of the vehicles have changed from original due to age.

*Much of the original rolling stock is included as well.
*Kato SD-9 Conrail (DC) original to layout
*Kato U-33B Conrail (DC) original to layout
*Atlas C-628 SP (DCC)
*Assorted freight cars with Microtrains couplers and trucks. Most have Fox Valley metal wheels.

*Great oppertunity to own a piece of Model Railroader history.

Please check "Mohawk Division" in the photos section for pics.

I'll pass...  Again.

The new model railroad room in our almost finished basement has room enough for the Juniata Division and my son's Apex, NC layout but not another HCD.

If whoever has it couldn't sell it for $910 on eBay, what makes them think it will get $2800 on Yard Sale?

As was discussed at legnth here, it's a great layout but fairly dated.

Although a fool and his money are soon to part

If this layout was closer to home, I'd own it. This was the very layout that got me back into model railroading. I was in graduate school in Blacksburg, VA. I wandered into a tiny little hobby shop and purchased the MR issue with this layout in it. It was the early '90s. To that point, I hadn't touched trains in around 12 years. Thanks to that layout, I made a call home and had dear old mom send me my collection of N scale. With the addiction reestablished, the rest is history.
I would make a special place for it in my house. I hope it finds a good home.
