...... And the truth of the matter is that the SPF's won't even recognize the undeniable fact that the CBQ foobies being offered are the real "hollywood stars" of the release..... They are close enough to proto for this modeller to roster a few to offset the "plain jane" PRR ones that will have to accompany them...... :trollface:
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I see that Brian has finally used some of the photos I sent him!  Either that or I have seen several of the prototype cars in this release.  I photographed PRR 112757 in July 1989 on the Butler Secondary in Freeport, PA and PRR 113751 in September 1989 on the Conemaugh Line in Millvale PA.  I will be in for seven of the nine proto schemes in this release.  The Burlington cars will be the first X58's from ESM I do not purchase.  I hope some typical Conrail cars painted in late 70's schemes come in subsequent releases.  Good stuff in this release though.

Eddie "Mister Conrail" K left off one of the patch-outs that is sure to attract a lot of attention as well:



But Pud is correct — the headliner in this group is the pair of XML14 stand-ins:



If you add the missing sections of the lower sill, the model becomes a nearly perfect replica of the XML14 and XML15.

I'm glad that my cut off date is 1967, otherwise I'd have to consider claiming Bryan as a dependent.

Looks like two out of this batch I'll have to order: PRR and the early CB&Q.

Welllll...I was looking for PC green with a CR patch, maybe next time. Probably have a few years of different schemes to do!

Yes.  Some of those are in the pipeline.

The 2 PRR cars were serviced in '82 and left the shop with roof walks?
I'm in the see it to believe it camp on this one.

Well, while I'm not going to post photos of every prototype the cars are based on, here is PRR 114390 that I personally photographed on the front track of the Oak Island hump yard in the 1980s:



Still has the "NEW" date also.  Note the Conrail car immediately adjacent.

Based on 2 minutes of research, Southern Wheel U-1 requirement and roof walk cut off both fell around the same time frame, so I could see the white dot car having roof walks (Why remove the roof walks until you change the wheels).. But the Yellow dot car would still not be fit for interchange because it has roof walks after 78.

That was the rule.  Obviously, there are exceptions and they seemed to be excessive when regarding the X58 classes.

I'm in for:
#222404 - Conrail (CR 209532) X58A and #222801 - Conrail Patch-Out (CR 209498) X58A
On the fence for #222110 - Pennsylvania (PRR 113751) X58A
Add #222109 - Pennsylvania (PRR 112757) X58C if no roof walks.

Neat to see that one is a  'yellow dot' and one is a 'white dot' :)  Except the White Dot car is isn't 'prototypical' on any road except Conrail.  I suppose the Yellow dot car isn't prototypical either if it has roof walks..

NOTE: By Prototypical I mean on roads other than Conrail due to interchange restrictions.

Each of the cars is accurately based on a specific prototype.  The dates of the reference photos will be published in the Newsletter along with model photos once the pilot models are in hand.  As stated in this issue, PRR 112757 is with roofwalk.

The Lehigh Valley X65 is the Deepwater green DSI car.  All the Valley X58 cars were white with black ends.  The X65 is coming, but there is no formal announcement as of yet.

I'm in for Ed's filthy one.  What are the dates of the different cars and are any of the still floading around today by chance?

The service dates are specified in the Newsletter.  Just a handful of fully repainted NS cars AFAIK, and a few in the hands of private shippers that are Plain Janes with just reporting marks and dimi data.  Ironically, the majority of the NS cars still have high brakwheels.
