So this has nothing to do with the decal paper.  Simply either the printer is busted, or the printer driver went South (both highly technical terms).  :)

Technical jargon no one understands

I prefer "shite the bed" myself. ie; Windows just shite the bed and now my PC won't boot

Speaking of Windows, when was the last update? If it was recently, you may need to either roll back, or reinstall your current printer driver. Failing that, I would get my trusty BFH.

You have obviously graduated to advanced technical jargon!  ;)

IIRC, Chris uses a Mac.  It should never have any software or hardware related problems.  :D

No Mac, I use Windose and a HP all in one printer.

I just now looked and had an optional update for my printer. Installed it and no change.

I'm trying this right now. I just sprayed a sheet of the decal paper with Dullcote and then I will try printing it on matte paper setting and see if I can go on with my life

Chris,  ink jet decal paper clear film is top-coated with a special ink-absorbing layer.  Just like ink jet photo paper, it is designed to absorb ink (so it doesn't bead up on the surface).  That special coating also stabilizes the water-based ink, so when the ink is dry, it can then be sealed with waterproof coating (like Dullcote).

If you sprayed that ink jet blank decal paper with Dullcote, you basically defeated its special ability to absorb the ink.

Good luck with your decals!

Yeah it didn't work.

I'm skipping decals for now. Either I will buy a laser printer or take them to work. I'm painting building roofs right now.

LOL!  This is taken care of. I already asked this question in a PM to Chris last night.  :)

Well, I did the artwork he's using for the decals, so I was quite prepared to simply print them on decal paper for him.

Model Railroad groupies  :D

But seriously I do appreciate the help. I'd like to save "phone-a-friend" for when there is no way I could do it myself. But the more I thought about it none of the computers at work take SD cards and I don't have a USB jump drive (or whatever).

The tanks are .880" wide and I had the lettering about .250" tall. And there is no hurry at all I have a billion other things on the layout to keep my busy. I just started trying to "fix" the tanks with weathering and that sent me off trying to re-do them. I work on one area then spin the layout around and do something else over yonder. I was painting building windows last night and then worked on making foam coal humps to put under the coal trestle. Anyways Thanks for all the help!

You could Email the file to yourself then open it at work and print it.

This is where I recommend having a Gmail account.  Easy to access, free, and you get 15 gigs of free online storage that you can selectively share with anyone you want.  Upload the file at home, log onto your Gmail account at work, download the file to your work computer or print directly from Google Drive.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Really nice Chris.  Period modelling can often look like a caricature, but you pull it off as well as anyone I know.  Can't wait to see your use of vehicles and signs.
