Finished assembling another F25a and did some work on this Trix tender. Next time, I'll use some brass for the lantern mounts.
The Scalecoat II Brunswick Green is quite green! I'm debating on if I should paint the boiler to match. I'm also deciding on what number to assign this loco. I have Alkem brass relief numbered keystones, but I'm trying to find a number that would have been around the Allegany Division. I had intended to modernize this with the post war pilot, but I have a few Fleet of Modernism cars and need pulling, so I'm hoping this will match nicely. I acquired this a few days ago. The K4s is a Kato C55 modified with a Faulhaber motor and a Trix shell, Bachman tender and all wheel pickup.

I always liked the Scalecoat I  Brunswick Green.  It also had a noticeable green hue to it.  I don't know if it
is the same as the "II".   I like the hue because I felt that if you can't at least see that the paint is a little green,
then why bother?  You may as well just paint it some black color.  I don't think the green is too much.

Yep.  Now that the C55's are readily available, I think that is the way to go for a K4 (and probably lots of other Pacifics).
I bet it runs great.

What did the builder use for cylinders and valve gear?   I can't quite see from your pics?  Are those just the stock Kato C55 pieces?

On holiday in Dorset, England enjoying fabulous weather and Mum's cooking.  Modelling is on hold until I get back home.

Then I made up a small, simple barn kit for the Slocan valley.

Mark - is that the Osborn Models barn?  I have two of those put away for my farm scene.  I will be interested to hear how it went together.

Hopefully this qualifies as enough effort for Kato to announce an RTR version :P

Hi Josh:
The tender looks great.  The marker lights and conduit are nicely done. Regarding the cab roof color, there is a lot of debate if they were actually painted freight car color or not.  Even with all the photos out there the jury is out.  The PRR paint instructions actually call for a mixture of equal parts freight car color and black.  The tender deck was straight freight car color as you have it.

Nice work.

Hi Tim ...glad you are having a nice time in the UK.

Yes the small barn is the Osborn kit. It goes together fine but is missing"finish" like trim boards and such. I added some from stripwood I had handy but it needs more. Also the foundation has gaps at the edges that need to be filled and the roof halves need something to hide the small gap where they meet at the peak.

It is fine for what it is but it isn't a foreground model.

Hope that helps and see you in August!

All I did this week was spray paint the Fort Nelson River bridge.   It looks way better than the black and white plastic of last week.

Lots of nice work again this week, only one way to describe those vehicles: they have been "Mark Danced!" Phenomenal work!

Shot a couple of photos to see how the camera was working (not great) but here is the newest member of my fleet, a FVM NS primer grey GEVO:

Doug- That's good to know. I saw that the GHQ kit noted that the cab roofs were black "pre M1" and were painted FCC or something after. But that kit also came with gold leaf lettering so that ruined some cred. Let me ask you this, though. I heard somewhere that the locos were "two toned" as in everything below the running boards were black, everything above was DGLE. If that's true, how does that apply to the tender? Should I paint that "strip" with the strrups DGLE or black? Maybe it won't make a difference once weathered.

Max, I don't know the answers to your questions, but I took some pics. If you find something that improve on or "tweak," please speak up  :D The loco was built by Mike Spitzer.

Lots of good stuff this week!  Michael Winicki, nice shot of those LV units.

Finally finished bashing a background industry; this took a lot longer than I thought it would have (as is typical of any project I take on lately).  These structures span 5 feet of backdrop.

Next up: a Branchline Trains "Crosby & Sons Coal" kit which will be in front of the middle siding; the near siding will be a team track. That will be  followed by an N Scale Architect DL&W station kit for the front-right of the scene.
