With the new TW Thrall out, I managed to get about 40 minutes of modeling time spread over three days.

This car is a near perfect match for the CGW car.  I think I just need to change out the Sill Steps.  However, the CGW cars were covered gondolas as were the WP, MILW and some of the other prototypes.  I grabbed a pack of the MTL covers to see what I could be done.

I need to get a coat of primer to see what it really looks like, but so far so good.

edit:  I need to change out the trucks to friction bearing.

Finished assembling another F25a and did some work on this Trix tender. Next time, I'll use some brass for the lantern mounts.
The Scalecoat II Brunswick Green is quite green! I'm debating on if I should paint the boiler to match. I'm also deciding on what number to assign this loco. I have Alkem brass relief numbered keystones, but I'm trying to find a number that would have been around the Allegany Division. I had intended to modernize this with the post war pilot, but I have a few Fleet of Modernism cars and need pulling, so I'm hoping this will match nicely. I acquired this a few days ago. The K4s is a Kato C55 modified with a Faulhaber motor and a Trix shell, Bachman tender and all wheel pickup.

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

I came home from holidays to find 15 of the coal/sulphur gondolas from PWRS.  These cars are fantastic, with lots of the various paint schemes, repaints and car-specific details.  Amazing to get all this detail and variation for about the same price as a cookie cutter generic car.

Thanks! I can't take credit for the boiler, though.

I've been playing around a little bit with some Proto:87 and some layout sound techniques.  I've posted some additional pictures and video at this link

What's got four thumbs and got some modeling time this week? Me and my 44T

She's largely done at this point, just have to add the fireman and engineer and slap it on the chassis. Becuase of the abundance of bright light it obscures the weathering job which really does this guy justice.

I'm glad this project is over.... The stripping was a chore, painting came out OK, and the decals were horrible. With the sublimation process, any vibrant color has white underneath it. Initially there was an offset of the overlapping colors, so I had to buy 3 sets to get all the right decals without offset of white and color. To go further the first layer, the white, was really thick then a layer of color slapped on top. I was shy of just dipping the shell in Micro-Sol/Solvaset completely. Finally almost every letter on each side has been typeset due to poor character spacing, a larger than normal gap here, or there...or everywhere. Because almost every letter was applied individually, some distortion occurred around the latches and hinges as there was no decal or film to "support" it.

This was an attempt to keep up with The Joneses (the Railwire), given the decal woes, I'm quite content with the outcome. Big props to Chris333 for the assistance with the hood vents!

Very nice work everyone especially the Pennsy loco and the 44 tonner!

I will be modeling out of a suitcase for a while, while we are on vacation.  Stuck in a hotel in TO at the moment grounded because we missed our connecting flight with the tornado warnings and thunderstorms up and down southern Ontario yesterday.  We spent 6 hours in a plane yesterday on what is normally a 45 minute feeder flight.  Bummer.

Anyway, this week's progress.

Made up the blades for the semaphores.  They are laminated from acetate so are flexible and provide decent red and green lenses for the aspects.

Then I made up a small, simple barn kit for the Slocan valley.

And finally I painted up a gaggle of GHQ kits that have been sitting unfinished on the layout.  I need to find the remaining side mirror etchings!

Have a great weekend everyone...

Yes! Ron! What's your technique for those numbers? I'm going to be doing it to a freight car soon.

Not much for me; I did manage to finally get the sides and back added to the apartment building--

and the back for the corner building--

And as noted earlier in the layout engineering thread, I made a minor change to the track at the corner of the layout to accommodate a new structure:
