NPs U28Cs (Ph1a) were U25C carbodies and trucks... the only difference between the late U25C and U28C 1a are the handrail stanchions.
CB&Qs (Ph1b) were also U25C carbodies and trucks, channel handrail stanchions... and a two-piece windshield

Some U25Cs were delivered with higher 2750-2800hp ratings, U25CUs (ACL 3011-3013, NP 2518-2520, PRR 6516-6519)

All other owners of U28Cs (L&N, PRR, SP, UP) had Adirondack trucks and a different carbody

Ed,

I did 5 minutes of digging, and found this (note the location):  http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2123646
And forget the mating worms, do this! : http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2866201

A lot of the pictures I saw on rrpa showed a bunch in storage(?) in Selkirk in 1980, initially leading me to believe that they were all retired around then.  However, at least one picture proves that wrong, with a U25C getting wheel work in NJ in 1982:  http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=624480  (great atmosphere pic there)  However, that 1982 shot is an outlier, with every other photo on there being from 1980 or earlier....

Ben

That B'more shot is awesome. That's such a great year to model.

I'll get a CR one just to support the effort. Last thing we need is another one-and-done N scale manufacturer.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with. I wonder if it will use trucks that are compatible with Atlas/Kato Flexcoils/Adirondack trucks.

Does anyone know if they will be exclusive to Walthers or are they importing to multiple distributers now?

In the HO link :  DCC/Ready and DCC/Sound equipped versions

In the N link : nothing about DCC , not good ...  ( at least DCC ready )
Thanks ,

Thinking the same way. I know U25B's made it up to Toronto on CPBU/BUCP, but a U25C would be a stretch... that I'm willing to make in a late 70's era.

Beefy...

I never had been a big fan of GEs (mostly because of the prevalence of NS Douche-9s around here for the past 14 years), but my C30-7s, then a bunch of videos, have been changing my mind.

The Cs really do have a great beefy look to em.

I will be buying a Conrail unit.  The model will have a split frame design.  So if it doesn't come with a DCC option, it will be easy enough to install a decoder if desired.  A drop-in decoder option would be nice, but the lack of one is not a deal-breaker.  Let's be at least slightly thankful that this never-produced-before prototype is coming to N, and that Arnold is resuming the production of N scale equipment.

Glad they are getting back into N. Hope the units sell well. Then they can offer other products that might be of use on my layout.

Same for all the manufacturers.

Are we as a scale spoiled from the old days when offerings were increasing and everything new was something people wanted because there were so few good running engines and well detailed rolling stock?  I noticed about 8 years ago from my armchair that even if I wanted to, it was no longer possible to buy one of everything that came out, but I remember the days of the paper BLW Newsletter when we sat around the NTRAK club devouring its pages and an order went out that often had most featured products being ordered by at least one club member.

At it's inception, CR was a veritable living catalog of GE's 1960's production, with some exceptions. I really wish I'd have been a little older that 1yr on CR Day and had been able to enjoy the burbling delights before the FOB (fleet of blah) fell unto the CR world. To have been amongst the crowds at Silvercreek would have been grand. Think the reason I was so enamored with the B36-7 fleet (and the C30-7A to a degree) back in the day was the resemblance to those U-boats.

Since Hornby is a European manufacturer (and so was Arnold), my hope it that this loco will have the standard 6-pin DCC socket, which will make it DCC-ready. This seems to be pretty much a defacto standard on all of the recently manufactured European N scale models.

I like the sound of this.

Yes a 6 pin plug is the ultimate in my book !!! So easy to make the conversion , and also the decoder are cheap .
Thanks ,

As a former Yooper I have a soft spot for the LS&I (have to love any RR that still uses the &). But a big problem is the lack of Michigan style ore cars (other than Shapeways kits). The Michigan iron lines were very interesting but a bit out of reach without a ready to run car.

Best wishes, Dave

Just gotta keep crankin' em out. I'm up to 20 now. Shapeways gives a 10% discount now to students (need .edu email adress), so that helps.

I'll take a U25C in LS&I please. I've done an RSD-12, working on a heavily reworked mehano rsd-15. When I get that basement, I'm doing the UP from ISH to GB.
