Since I will soon hopefully have SW1500s to run over it, I decided to mostly finish laying track on Canal Street, one of the most peculiar little streets in Philly:

This fascinating building had 4 sidings running directly into the building; a Conrail ZTS map also indicates three car spots right in the middle of the street. "Screw you guys, the customer wants this boxcar spotted here..."

Awesome.

If I hadn't seen the proto photo, I would have asked, "What in the hell are you doing?!"  ;)  That is such an awesome scene that you're modeling there.

One suggestion: Can you spare any room, so that the track won't be so close to the edge of the layout near those two turnouts?

That conglomeration of buildings sure looks like it would be a fun build. For some reason it reminds me of a DKS creation. :D

Tim those switchers are outstanding . I can't remember when I ever saw something to point out that I would change that you posted . IMO though the conical stacks atop the muffler , or whatever they are look like a poorly made casting instead of what they should look like . Could you not use the plastic ones from many sources , or fab ones to give it that smoother look ?

Hi Richie:

As mentioned these are not my engines, but I suspect that the spark arrestor assemblies are a complete brass casting from Eric, which are sometimes a little rough.  I often spend quite a bit of time cleaning up the Eric parts I use for my own locomotives.

I am not aware of any plastic versions of these in N Scale as it is not a part required for PGE/BCR power.  I wil pass on your suggestion, but I suspect that John is quite happy with the job Jeff has done using the available parts.

Well it is still the weekend here in Canada, and I can't let Steve in NZ have all the big MLW fun.   :D

I have completed installation of the pilots, couplers and adjacent details on my three MLW M-630s:

I used Eric pilots, Micro-Trains #1015 couplers, BLMA cut levers and trainline air hoses, Sunrise MU hoses.

Next up are the detailing of the cabs and assembly of the fuel tanks.

Thank you.  Easier to do three at the same time rather than one after the other.

Hmm... Canal Street in
New Orleans...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

I'd expect better from you, David.     That's Belgian block, not cobblestones.

Invoking Ed's Law...

One suggestion: Can you spare any room, so that the track won't be so close to the edge of the layout near those two turnouts?

Nope, not an inch. Here's the active Google map:

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=canal+st+phila,+pa&ll=39.963623,-75.135798&spn=0.002043,0.005284&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&hnear=Canal+St,+Philadelphia,+Pennsylvania+19123&gl=us&t=m&z=18

If you look at Delaware Ave, that once carried a spur that ran to the tan building at the corner of Germantown and Laurel (which will also be modeled). Moving a block southeast, Penn St also featured street running to serve the Jack Frost  Sugar plant which is now occupied by that horrid casino. So I have a lot of railroad to cram into just 30 inches, and every millimeter matters...

Very nice!

I remember when Ed took me down to these tracks back in 2008. Can't find my photos of it though. Some awesome street trackage.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

I'm getting better at the wax milling thing.  Got these parts back from DKS, cast from my wax tooling.  They are new period-correct sides (post-1930) in the New Haven configuration.  Here are some quickie cell phone pics.

They are designed to fit the Micro-Trains RPO, and basically are a copy of the MTL model with the windows rearranged and the mail hooks removed (I will use the Kato stand-alone detail parts).  But the Wheels Of Time 70' baggage car has finer detail, so I'm going to use that as the core instead.

I also got castings of the corrected diner sides.  My first attempt had details from two different classes, so I correctly created the two distinct classes and milled them both.
