Kato updated their release schedule with new tooling for freight car sets: http://www.katousa.com/PDF/June/Upcoming%20Preorders-June13.pdf

So what do you think it will be?
I'm hoping for something Pennsy...but it will probably not be that.

In all reality it will be something modern and commonly found behind BNSF or UP.

That would be great.  ;)  But bear in mind that Kato lists these freight car sets under their North American Rolling Stock banner.  I'm not counting on anything too interesting (or detailed) - but I'm prepared to be surprised.

These new sets are listed as NA prototype.  I guess we'll see what that means.

Maybe we'll finally see those two bays covered hoppers in an open side.

Most likely another stack train or hopper set, hopefully I'm wrong.

It's got to be something for unit service I would think. Rapid discharge coal hoppers or Ethonal tankers? Maybe another Intermodal car like a Thall Low Pack ?

Your layouts nice, but it needs more Conrail !

Probably ANOTHER grain hopper like we need more already.

Wouldn't it be awesome if they did a 19K gallon corn syrup or acid tank? Or a 70's era 53' gon? Or a UTLX 25-28K gallon general service tank? Or a C channel 89' flat?

Nope, we all know its going to be a grain hopper.

Save me the trouble of cutting holes in the ones I've got ... "new tooling" might mean partial re-tooling of old molds? Then that could be a open-side hopper...
Gotta wonder why there are 4 sets ... box of multiple car types with various road names? Or a "runner pack" -like deal of all the same type?

Herzog Ballast Train?

Probably more unit hoppers or a different intermodal car, either of which would be interesting...

Most likely it is more than one model, and most likely there will be information revealed in Milwaukee at the end of this month.  There should be a number of manufacturer announcements in Milwaukee, and a few more in Atlanta the following month.  Not a long wait to find out.

Good to know that they aren't requiring pre-orders prior to the announcement.
All kidding aside, it is always great to see new models under development!

Best wishes, Dave
