Heratige Trains & Lord of the Rings

A couple months ago I showed my son the old RMC with the N scale Rohan & Gondor.
Didn't think much of it (showing it to my son, not a 30 year old N scale layout.)

Well, this morning I got this from him.  (It's finals week, must be stress relief!)

“Subject: The one railroad to rule them all...

...It all began with the forging of the great western railroads...

...6 were given to the major class 1 routes...

...6 were given to the semi-major class 2 routes...

...and 6 were given to the lesser known short lines...

...but then the dreadful chairman James R. Young learned the craft of merging other railroads and made the inexorable and unstoppable railroad empire...
The Union Pacific...the one railroad to rule them all...

And he used his route to brutally conquer the hapless class 1 routes, forcibly providing them with the so-called "Heritage" units with the most hideous paint schemes ever known to railwaymen...

...but then, there were some who resisted...

A last alliance of fallen flaggers and eastern railroad geeks marched against the armies of the Union Pacific. And on the slopes of Omaha, they fought for the freedom of the fallen flags...

And yet, the power of the UP could not be undone. Left and Right, people who preferred the old railroads were ridiculed into the insanity of anti-progress. It was at this critical moment, when all hope had faded, that Charles W. Moorman, heir to the throne of the Norfolk Southern, took up his paint shed and 20 units. In one singular blow, Young, the enemy of the true fanatics of the fallen flags, was outperformed.

...You can tell I was bored...

...no offense to anyone, by the way...

Fred,
I love it!  I hope he does well on his finals.  More importantly, I hope he gets a job working for Steven Colbert - that sort of ability to write parody should be well compensated by someone.

I can go with that... UP either has to be the host of the Dark Lord, or the Borg.

It's just too bad UP never took over the Milwaukee, otherwise we could have seen a Hiawatha painted heritage unit.

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

Over on this side of the river (east) is it the evil empire (NS) and the rebel aliance (CSX)?

I sure as hell never considered CSX as a rebel alliance.  They are run by a bunch of drones.

Exactly... No identity. No one even knows what CSX stands for.

C = Chessie
S = Seaboard
X = all the rest of the lines that got sucked into CSX

That's great Mike!

As far as CSX(T)
We were enjoying eating at the Shovel there in Marion OH, and while coming up with definitions, my son  (about 14 at the time) shot out;
Crashing
Smashing
eXploding
Trains!

Interesting.

That's still pretty bland and drone-like if you ask me.  8)

CSX's  "X"  is a multiplication symbol - it's right on their Facebook page....

And it's been known since at least the time they merged since I remember reading about it in Trains or whatever back when...

From CSX's Facebook Page:

"The Chessie System and Seaboard Coast Line Industries Inc. came together and CSX Corporation was created to serve the eastern half of the nation. The C stands for Chessie, the S for Seaboard, and the X for the multiplication effect, recognizing the two companies coming together."

I like my own explanation that CSX means "Chessie System eXpanded"

yeah, but isn't that still "addition" at the core?
 :trollface:

It should have been CxS.  or C(S).
But I suppose it works if you take knowledge and logic out of it...
PCX- Multiplying the Penn by the Central.
Too bad it all equals zero anyways thanks to the NYC and the zero property of multiplication it brings to the table :trollface: :trollface: :trollface:

Based on this, CXS would have been better!  Chessie X Seaboard... :trollface:
