Proto Engine question

Hey guys.

Looking for info on an oddball engine I saw on line awhile back...cannot find the link or any reference to it now.  I believe the engine is in KCS...maybe SOO markings, but I could be wrong...it looks like an SD40-2 with a short hood from a GP in place of the normal 40 unit...and has what looks like a very long deck on the back as a result.  The article was on modeling the unit in HO Scale and was refered to as "franken-diesel" or something like that.   Ring any bells out there?  I have the makings of that engine, just need some reference to go by.  Very cool looking.

Thanks for any info you have.

Cheers

Joe

Joe

I believe the unit began life as a SD45T-2.  http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=77964.

Thread drift: You made a model of SP's Dayton Tower, any chance of a kit for the general public?

Does anyone know WHY that's been labeled a B unit? Was it missing a crapper or something?

That engine has to ride a bit unbalanced.
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Thanks guys...Chriss!!  finally!  Yea, funny looking but it's itching for hot tub and a few lawn chairs on that rear deck :o)  I will probably just make it front wheel drive and lash it up with something else.  Looks too cool not to do.

Post photos. I don't think I've seen one in N scale.

Here's one someone did.  Looks like an IM tunnel motor with a Kato SD40-2 long hood.

He used the wrong hood though. It should be an early SD40-2.

SP flatfaces have a Monkey Deck , this looks bigger , so in that light a Great Ape Deck it might be coined . I can see  a beach umbrella , card table , and happy crew members .
