Lots of pollution control details went into the paint shop this afternoon for my paper mill. Phone doesn't want to let me put more than one shot in a post.

Rotary kiln work tonight.

I've been struggling to find a way to build the concrete supports for the kiln and hardware, until I happened to try some Lego bricks. Perfect.

More details needed: lights, railings, walkways, but the hard stuff, including the gears, tires, and motors and rollers aredone, thanks to Shapeways..

An overhead. The venturi ventilators are PVC. Piping is a combo of Green Max 37-2 and Walthers HO refinery piping set.

Yes, feel free. I stole your LEGO technique. That ventilator thingamajig is indeed LEGOs. The little black cones have all kinds of uses. I've been resisting using too many.

Hit Shapesways and find Ngineer's shop. The rotary kiln pieces are his design based off info amd links I sent him. A bit of cross Atlantic cooperation. I would still be drawing. They are designed to work with 1 inch OD PVC, though I did have to suit mine inside the ring with .010 styrene strip to get a snug fit. We figured better a bit lose than too tight, but be careful how many layers of spray bomb paint you lay down before sliding the rings on.

I'm starting to think about animation possibilities. Shouldn't be too hard for a mechanical genius (not me) to figure, but most motors would move way too fast I think. A rotating kiln would be a very subtle special effect.

You need an old display turntable motor like the ones you see in store wi does under slowly rotating displays. Gotta be on fleabay somewhere

Nice ingenuity on display here.  Some good ideas here for my Monolith cement plant as well.

I noticed something about the two trak siding into the warehouse you may want to consider.  The top roofline terminates basically terminates in the middle of the inside track.  I may be wrong about this because I am not a structural engineer, but I think that would require a load bearing element (columns?) that should exist right down the middle of the track.

The paving crew fired up the Rustoleum spray bombs for a bit today. Some trimming left to do, but I tested the three main colors I want to use, thank you Dave Foxx and DKS. You can't tell from these shots, but I sanded the styrene with a sanding stick to establish a grain in the pavement and allow dry brush highlights to grab when finishing.

I am not sure if I like the darker gray (Rustoleum) or lighter gray (Wal mart) best. One could be newer pavement and one older too.

I think the light gray is a bit too light.

One thing you could do at the truck docks since it looks like your lot area is blacktop is mask in a strip of concrete where truck landing gears set depending on your time frame. 

Looks very nice !  I need to get back to work on my paper mill, just have a tough time cutting up buildings to make them fit where they go and everything still looks right.

You read my mind. The  last 80 feet or so of the loading lot will be concrete. I may go 3D printing and make a set of trailer lifts to get them to the right height and add a modern detail.



Adding a slope will be tricky.

XEROX your kit walls. Then you can cut all you like and test fit everything.

Thanks, Scott. I tend to agree, but asphalt  gets some serious white into it from wear and weathering. There are several India ink washes to go before the final powdered chalks get applied. I'm just looking for a base coat. At least the concrete looks right with the Testors Light Aircraft Gray.
