Eric
...

That is one good looking E6. Was it a eBay find.

Regards

Al

Nope, your buddy Jon was kind enough to do a custom build for me.  I supplied the donor K4, and requested that it be lettered for #460.

This week I flipped a coin between  two lower deck options..  Fort Nelson River and Beatton River siding (ok. it was a bit more sophisticated decision process than a coin toss)

The winner was the Fort Nelson River dual use road-rail bridge a few miles south of Fort Nelson. ...

I spent the weekend installing the new bridge scene benchwork including a dropped section for the bridge itself.

The bridge spans will likely be kitbashed extensively out of Central Valley kits and compressed to about 80% length.

I answered the basement's call this weekend.

Since I took out the carpet a while back, the room was darker, colder, and a less enjoyable place to be. I decided to fix that, and was able to install a new floor WITHOUT having to remove the existing benchwork, which is admittedly used more for storing junk than its intended purpose, but that will change now that the room is in better shape.

Here is how it looked on Thursday. Even the cat felt it was time to do something.

Hard to enjoy a good fire with a cold slab floor. Catfish made sure it didn't need more fuel.

Here is the new entry way with the flooring finished.

The benchwork is still there, and yes there is lots of stuff to put away on top of it. I will likely be ripping it out to build a different layout. This one was just not inspiring me anymore. I think the new look will make me want to visit the basement more than the dungeon conditions did. It was easy to put down the new floor even under the legs thanks to a Layout Jack - a 2x4 with 1x2 squares nailed to the sides at each end. Plenty of room to slide a plank through under the elevated leg.

A close up of the legs on the new floor.

Aisle shot of area near the exterior wall. Note the braces on the wall to hold this shelf portion of the benchwork. This method will be used where possible on the new benchwork.

Now to finish the new track plan and get cracking on recycling L girders.   The new flooring makes the room much more finished, helps reflect more light - though I will still probably add some track lighting in a couple spots to help with the overall level of room lighting. I plan to use LED strips for lighting the layout, but that will be a new adventure, as no previous layout had more than a shop light over the top of it.

Pretty happy with the productive weekend. Hope yours was equally beneficial. Now if my back would just shut up. :o

Finished the lettering on the 44T. I had to typeset all the letters since the spacing between characters is not consistent for MARYLAND. Just have to wrap up the stripping and cab numbers.

Making a few test trees using various materials and grades of them.  Going for an early spring look.

The dead leave trees are some types of oak which hold onto their leaves until budding.  Still need to find something to make an eastern redbud with; pink or purple ground foam I have don't look right, need some magenta foam.  Who the hell makes that?

Or maybe try a light coat of spray paint over more earthy-colored foliage, which won't be so intense.

I worked on my two new oNeTrak modules. They are both 45 degree corners with a diverging straight line. Ready just in time for the GSTMS show in Timonium, MD next weekend.

 ;) Belated week end photo from 1975-76 of my first home n-scale layout.  All structures seem to be Heljan;
could not find the brewery topic to post there.
Note that I was already using extruded polystyrene for created scenery; this was before I recall seeing any articles on its use in model railroading.

Just scanned some 35 mm slides from way back when.  I was starting to add Kadee (now MTL) rolling stock to the roster.

NOICE!  Except your safety guy just had a coronary because the passengers had to pass through a coupled freight train to get to the platform for the Amtrak.

...and the way that engineer was handling that freight train really made it challenging for the Amtrak passengers.   :D
