More "Micro-Mate" Coupler Assembly

In the past two months, I've ordered 135 Atlas ore cars from MB Klein. I also ordered 140 trucks only (no wheels or couplers) from Micro-Trains, plus the coupler lids.

Now, I'm disassembling the Accumate couplers (after cutting them off the Atlas trucks) and putting them on the MTL trucks. It's slow going... I can convert a pair of trucks in two minutes, so I'm looking at almost 5 hours straight working time to complete the conversions. Sigh.  :scared: This is in addition to the time spent taking the trucks off the ore cars and cutting off the couplers in the first place.

At least I can tell myself there will be no slinky effect on my ore trains (once I get the layout built).

Has anyone else done a marathon conversion session like this?

I wish!  :scared:  I have to look carefully (with optivisor) at what I'm doing. First of all, I need to pop apart the Accumate coupler pockets. Funny, but they won't explode for me and free the coupler shanks! I have to pry them apart with a jewelers' screwdriver. Then I have to put the shanks (properly aligned) onto the Micro-Trains truck boss, then I put the lid on and lock it into place... no simple task.

I did 100 Atlas ore cars with body mounted Red Caboose #1065 dummy couplers.  Got them very close coupling and ran the train on the club layout for couple of years.  Never took photos, then sold the train to another member.  No idea where the cars are now.  Took 15 minutes a car to take the truck off, cut off the
coupler, add the new styrene coupler base, drill the hole, tap the hole and install the coupler.  This was of course after waiting a day for the glue to dry, and painting the cars.

Did the entire train in 3 months, some days an hour, others 5 to 8 hours.

Nor would the LOTR fans.  The story was written as a single book, but the publisher refused to print it that way.  The movies were actually filmed as a single film, all done at once, then edited and released in three parts. 

As for the ore cars, I have 30 with MT Z/Nn3 couplers, but that was easy.  Cut the Rapidos off the Atlas trucks, glue a piece of plastic under the end sill, drill, tap and mount.

You guys are right, my apologies.  I'm sure nobody would have any freaking idea whatsoever what I was talking about when referring to a set of three related movies as a trilogy.  :RUEffinKiddingMe:  :facepalm:

EDIT: Especially movies all available commercially in sets with "Trilogy" on the box.

There's being a jerk, and then there's some people that just take it to an entire art form...

         When the Intermountain Refrigerator Cars first came out as kits I assembled (built) 20 over a two day period in a marathon assembly line-like session. Most of my cars were PFE Orange & Brown so I could interchange parts during the assembly but at the same time two cars were Express Green, and there were two NP & two GN cars. When I did this I removed the Intermountain sem-auto couplers from the trucks and installed MT couplers. I do not remember the MT Product number. Never again! When I built IM Box Car kits I took my time and did one to three cars at a time. I also replaced the trucks on these with MT Bettendorf Trucks with truck mount couplers. Nate Goodman (Nato). Don't do kits anymore "Isn't Ready To Run Nice !"
