That was the era that really got my blood pumping for ATSF.  Once the Warbonnets came back, and the GP60s and the Dash 8's started rolling off the line, I was hooked again.  I believe the 8's were a few years down the road......

Yep, me too.  I look at my slides from the '90's now and feel lucky to have railfanned and captured these great years on film.  The beauty of the Warbonnets, offset by the awesome grunginess of the SP. . . truly the 'golden years' for me also :)

You guys are making me want to have a 'retro' warbonnet train for my Tehachapi layout   ;)

^ Do it!

I worked at a hobby shop at the time Bachmann released it's Dash 8 model.  As bad as it was (in HO), I bought three of them right off the bat just to have the biggest, and best looking locos out there.  I have small love affair with Dash 9's as well.

Will everybody please stop it. All this reminiscing... I mean really. I don't want to have to get out my Atlas 8-40Bs and put them in front of some intermodal equipment tonight. :scared:

Without using DCC, I wonder how the gearing/running speeds are between the FVM's and the 8-40's??

My 8-40 ATSF "fleet" is asking too. LOL  They would look great together.

Picking my M & B units up tomorrow. I'm hoping that my bashed ones will still look OK next to them or, better yet, lashed up to them as an ABBA set...

I also hope they look and run well with the Lifelike GP60's.

I mean..., REALLY!

Why always the Southwest? Why not Illinois?

Looks like Atlas' Red is on the darker side, while FVM's seems lighter. Will it stop me from running them together... Nope!

 :D

BTW: Got out my copy of GMR 1991. Under "Railroading Today" it says: New "Super Fleet" locomotives going into service on fast intermodal trains are bringing back the red-and-silver look of the Santa Fe's passenger steamliners. The lead and trailing units on this L.A. - Chicago intermodal train are the first of two new 100-class GP60Ms delivered in 1990. New 300-class 8-40BWs being built by G.E. will also wear the red warbonnet.

Also, on the bottom of the page is a CSX 8-40C in the new CSX yellow nose scheme.

Ah memories...

Yeah, throw a 60 B unit in there, and that'll be sweet.

Curse FVM, now I'm going to have to buy one of these for Trainfest.....

Yes!   That's how I'll be running mine most of the time....a Dash 8-40BW and GP60B, and maybe another 4-axle at times...LMX or ATSF or I've even seen a BN B30-7AB in the mix for a very "dog's breakfast" A-B-B consist.

You know you want to, Philip.  They'll look good (and be easily justified) on the KCS.
