My previous post spoke of only the trains. I have a plastic file box with a snap on cover that I keep my decals in. It has kept them "fresh" for years.

For small parts and even complete chassis I use several parts storage boxes with drawers. Seen here at Wally-world:

This is all very interesting.  I personally hate plastic furniture, but it is hard to deny the utility of these drawer systems many people use.  I once saw the Ikea wooden drawers and thought they would be useful, but they were gone by the time I decided to buy some.

I guess I must not have much "stuff".  I have a few shallow plastic totes for rolling stock/jewel cases, and I use paper bankers boxes for scenery material and other items.  I have a small wood wall display unit for my locomotives to keep dust off them and provide instant visual gratification.

I store all my locos in ArtBins they hold about 25 locos depending on how they have been arranged. As for roiling stock I keep them in large boxes that train stuff has been shipped to me.

I store all rolling stock in Axian boxes. They hold 36-40 cars. Locos stored upright on bookshelves. Jewel cases stored in separate boxes. Don't have a good system yet for scenery, etc.

I'm a big, big fan of the Axian boxes and carrying cases... for transporting to/from train shows. YMMV, obviously, but for longer-term storage I've had some problems with the foam adhering to the lettering on some brands of rolling stock (Red Caboose is a notable). After a show, if I forget to take them out, next time around I end up scrambling to catch multiple cars as they drop from the lid I just lifted.

Currently in banker boxes.

However one day I'd like to build a dresser, with dividers in the drawers, so the cars sit in the jewel cases on end all in rows, look at the end see what it is and there you go...one day I'll get this.

No space is left unfilled.
I considered my "stuff" to be more of an organized Chaos.

I use Office Depot file storage boxes for my freight cars. I have so little of everything else that it fits on 2 card tables, with room to spare.

Hmm... everything I have
fits on my treehouse
layout...

The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Rubbermaid 18gal plastic totes with cardboard "flats" from soda or canned goods. I used to use the cardboard tray that 24pack Sams Choice soda cans came in, before they switched to  cardboard boxes like Pepsi and Coke. Now I use cardboard trays from canned vegetables, soup, etc. They fit the totes nicely and generally hold two layers of N scale jewel cases.

My stuff is all over the place in totes right now... it really bothers the f out of my OCD... because I am in temporary housing. I have 4 totes for rolling stock, 2 for "storage" and 2 for "show cars", the show car totes go with the layout to shows. Durrrr. My workbenches are 2 30"x8' tables. One is the used for construction, and the other is divided up into sections for paint, scenery materials, and kit materials

In my old house I had a very organized workbench with all my tools and rolling stock organized. I can not wait to get back to a housing situation where I can be at that point again.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

I use those boxes too, mine came with a warning to use tissue paper on top of the foam i which do, no problom.

I made a cabinet for mine.

I picked up some timber draws from a friend some 20 years ago with travel cases to carry the draws.
I then made draws from heavy duty cardboard (that would be used inside plastic binders)

I store my rolling sock and loco's in the original jewel cases and then place them in the draws.
I also store the car cards for each car in the relevant draw.

The cabinet is on wheels so I can move it if needed. But generally it stays in the railway room.

My trains themselves are stored in one organized arrangement.
Locos and track cleaning supplies are in my briefcase (plenty of extra room for when i buy stuff), plus anything special i want to keep in its box.
Rolling stock are currently in only three boxes. They are actually "cases" that once housed large versions of VHS tapes that TV stations used to keep recorded material. The two "nubs" where the rollers would go over have been cut out, and foam rubber put on top and headliner on the bottom. It compresses on the rolling stock, but does not damage them. Plus i get more cars in a smaller space than the Axion boxes. All three cases fit perfectly in a Comfort Zone rolling salesman's sample case. I removed the little metal logo piece on the front, soon to be replaced by a GWR "shirtbutton" patch.

Box 1 holds Reefers
Box 2 holds 40' boxcars
Box 3 holds everything else and some overflow reefers.
Soon to be Box 4 will hold all my UK rolling stock.
