Brian, what is the difference between the X58 and X65? What roads used the G36 besides PRR (I assume PC/CR)? That P&LE coil car is hot!

Any of these in service in 1987-89? Looking like CPBU is going to be heavy with ESM goodness  :)

All photos are now live.
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Daniel's Photo

This is the Charles Center building that was the Baltimore hq for Chessie.  It's on N. Charles Street just up from the old B&O building at the corner of Charles and Baltimore St., and one of the first buildings erected in Hopkins Plaza.  It's a cool building, and for those who are so inclined, once sported a big Chessie System logo on the glass of the lobby.

When the WM was assimilated, there was a forced death march from their offices on St. Paul Street over to the Chessie building, where they were forced to fill coal scuttles for the C&O executives who now ran the show.  The B&O men had to clean their toilets.  Rumor has it that there was a period of 40 days when all the underlings were flogged in the dungeon when a urinal cake was found to be whittled into the shape of Hays Watkins.  These were brutal times.

I'm totally digging the S-series switchers.  Is the Bachmann one on the street yet?

Brian, what is the difference between the X58 and X65?

Short story (references @ home) - X58 built by PRR shops; X65 built by NYC (Despatch) shops.  Both 50-foot outside-post with plug doors, but different number of side panels and different ends.

I can add more tonight @ home.

So that this important thread doesn't get hijacked, I'll start a new topic shortly to address all the questions of the ESM items displayed at the show.

The show blew my mind to smithereens.
I snagged some MT Meat Packer series at 40% off as well as a kato pennsy NW2 at 40% off of $80.
I bought and put a decoder in it at the show, and ran it all day.
I also snagged one of the MT three dome tank cars at 50% off.
Snagged some more MT reefers and a 40' boxcar as well.
Super snagged a Walther's PRR baggage car for $8.00!!!!!!! Yes, there is nothing wrong with it.
Also saw Bob from TrainCat and picked up a G22b (To hold some DKS coke containers) and a crane-boom load-kit.
I cannot wait for the B&O wagontop caboose from FVM!
I didn't see the S-4 at B-mann or the S-2 at Atlas... odd that others did.
However, I did see the Atlas 4-4-0 that looks like one heck of a beauty.
I didn't snag one at the show since I'm debating if I want a PRR or an unlettered version for other possible uses.
I saw DKS (Honestly, I'm not stalking him) although he never saw me.
None of you ever accosted me if you had happened to see me(I swear I don't bite!), but I was on the move quite a lot on Saturday in my shopping frenzy. Spending so much money in only $24 hours is exhausting for me and the wallet.

Hopefully things will allow me to attend again next year.

Nice reflection!  Remind me never to build a model with mirrored windows....   Otherwise, these structures are impressive!

Thanks for this report!

Am I weird just because the most exciting thing in it, to me, is the electrical pickup kit that Microtrains announced to
fit into their trucks to give them axle cone point pickup?

Don't answer that.

I am not sure about the way the metal plates show in the middle between the wheels.  That would have to be
fixed (unless it's just a preproduction thing).   I have wished they would do this for years and years.
But just as important as the freight trucks, they should do it to their passenger trucks!  People put MT
passenger trucks under all sorts of old stock and give up the possibility of car lighting.  Maybe they won't have to anymore.

Woo hoo... the ability to put MT trucks under any steam tender and get all-wheel pickup.  Yay.

I'm not sure if there is reason to be excited about the MTL pickup system or not. It is not all wheel pickup. It is only half axle but both ends of the axle make contact with the plates so you end up with redundancy. One truck will pick up left rail, one will pick up right as it stands right now. We have one of the track cleaning cars setting in the shop and that is exactly how it is wired.

You may be able to replace the MTL wheel sets with Kato or Bachmann and get all wheel pickup but that is yet to be seen as I am not ready to buy a $100 track cleaning car to pull the trucks off of it.
