Hi John and Bob,

and that is near a dammed to 1'8"  which is about what the ECW cars are.

I just checked the port holes in the PB70 which looked bigger but were pretty much the same. It would appear that for once they may have been standard.

Regards

If I remember correctly wasn't Wheels Of Time going to do a P70 variation?  Haven't heard anything recently about them.

Very nice work, Josh!

How did you make the porthole windows on the P70fbR?

Hi Bob,

Will believe it when I see it.

All I know at this time is that MTL have delivered what they said they would and are in the process of delivering what I believe will be one of the biggest advances in PRR Pass Car modelling for years.

I am not discounting the effect that Kato had on the subject not only with the set but with the production of a E8 Body that pretty well met all the major requirements of the PRR Variant. Closed Pilot with single headlight without dynamic brakes. Now we need them to do a DGLE twin headlight variant. We need two of them.

What I am saying this is a very specific car sold as a single entity not as a set.

But back to the subject at hand the poor old Lima P70 models have still done a great job.

Josh,

You may be able to get the grommet around the porthole by gluing a cross section of K&S brass tube into the hole and filing it back. The thickness of the facing edge can be thinned down by hand reaming it with a countersink tool.

Regards

Al

Ah... no.  They showed a picture of a P70 coach when they did a survey a couple of years back but no firm plans for the release of such was ever announced, they simply used the photo as an example of what they might consider.

I am taking a wild guess here but the round windows are probably the same size as the ones on the Hell Gate Models B60b.

I thought I had compared the two, but done this, but I guess I was wrong. The B60bs have 1/8in windows. My P70fbR has 11/64th windows.
OK, Al...you win.  :D Miller High Life, it is! No PBR for you!
PBR. Hmm.  Almost sounds like passenger car. Anyways, I'm glad this got figured out. I wasn't too happy with the holes anyways. They were not clean cuts. Plus, I think I get a chance to redo the rivets and make a tighter fitting window blank.  I'm not sure if I'll do the grommet. I think there is a greater chance I will make it worse.

Stu: all I did was drill a hole in styrene. Use a 1/8 bit.

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Yeah, I now remember taking that survey.  Maybe it's time for all us Pennsy fans to start e-mailing them asking for this car.

Mine are still in what Adam Savage of MythBusters likes to call "in potentia". I've got several P70s in Army green, several P85 kits still on sprue, and I'm looking at some P70gsR kits and maybe a P70kR or two. All of these discussions just convince me that I have far more work to do than I thought when I bought this stuff.

Hoping over the next 6 years while I`ll mainly be armchair railroading(while my dad enjoys the layout we built)I`ll build a massive passenger fleet and I mean massive enough to fill 30 th street station and passenger yards

True dat!
I thought "Oh sure! All I have to do it put on the ice boxes and the roofs and I'm done!"

In reality it was "carve out under body, glue new pieces in place, drill holes for grab irons, bend grab irons, scribe arch roofs, build doors, attach diaphragms, assemble and mount couplers, shave diamonds, scrape and replace roof vents, drill pin holes, plate over windows, drill out pipes, count rivets, attach rivets, paint, gloss coat, decal, and drink till I pass out."

I have to pick up some of those gsR and kR kits.
I wonder when Jeff will get his molds fixed for the FMs.
