Anyone got a good idea on how to paint the windows on the yellow ones?

Hmm... I always use
a roller...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

I'd try painting them silver, then tint to taste with thinned acrylic black. I've gotten some good results on old Road Apples.

BTW the dozers are frigging awesome!

I will be making some decals right from the drawings. Instead of trying to line up a bunch of cut out rectangles my plan is to do them in a strip. When I'm finished I can make them available. In fact I would give them away if you send me a stamped self addressed envelope.

Just wanted to join the chorus.  I got my two crawlers today and they are impressive.  Most impressive.

I'm really glad folks like the crawlers! I just received two more re-stock orders, one of which is very large. They're selling like crazy, and I have done no advertising for them except this post on Railwire. I've already cast so many that the first set of molds are starting to go, so the re-stocks will take just a little longer than normal to fill.

Here's a photo showing the use of a .100" thick shim to aid in the crawler assembly.

Be careful not to bond the crawler to the shim...

:) Demonstrates the adage that a picture is worth a thousand words. Now very clear how to place shim and attach tracks to crawler body.  Thanks very much.

Karin,
This angle intrigues me.  Would there be enough blank space between windows to settle over the frames?  And would you do frame inserts in silver?  Not common, but I've seen silver around the windows on many a bus over time.

I think a 50's era school bus would do well. Transistion era is popular as seen in the cmw poll. Any chance we could see one of those in the future?

I built mine the same way David showed. (except I used a wood block) I tacked it in place with a small amount of wood glue. Once that was set I flooded the joint with ACC.

50s stuff is tougher to produce. 70s-80s is easier owing to the fact that it was dominated by straighter lines, harder edges and boxier designs. 50s stuff is all lumpy and quasi-streamlined, while more modern stuff is all fluid lines and compound curves. I'd love to do stuff from all eras, but it's a lot of work, and I've got more projects than I could possibly hope to complete in several lifetimes. But you never know...

You could start with the body of a Tomy Bus...obviously there would be some need for change in relation to legal copyright. Or folks could just bust out an X-Acto and some filler-putty.

Just a thought.
