Why move the tip about ballast to H0 section?
« on: December 30, 2012, 10:08:09 PM »
Ian, I wonder why that thread was moved to H0? Isn't ballast non-scale-specific?  Not that I would ever consider using slag as ballast in the first place, but to me that tip applied to any scale.

Well, in this case I think it's pretty scale-specific, particularly when the poster said "we do HO scale."

Yes ballast is not scale specific, but I it was not an engineering report, and there really isn't a catch all scenery forum.

Can slag be small enough for N? I've seen it used before in HO, like the poster was using it, and have seen the requirement of using a magnet over it. I've actually seen tips to run a magnet over any natural material used for ballast to remove small metal particles.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

Yes... I'm in N... Also HO and 1:1

Didn't we have one at one time?

The original post could have just as well said N or O scale.  I really don't think that matters. What matters is the general warning that slag might have magnetic particles in it (damaging loco motors in *ANY* scale).

I'm all for moving threads to proper forums but here I'm starting to feel like Spookshow (Mark).   I thought the post was a good fit where it was (at least from allt the available forum choices.) But I'm repeating myself.  No need to chastise me - I'm done questioning this thread move.

I thought we did have a scenery forum at one point but I can't remember how long ago. Rollback time?

That forum is for threads on peoples layouts only. Kinda like a blog roll. Tips/Tech/Question threads are not for that forum. But I moved it to a more "scenery" forum. Is that good enough so you can make it through the day now? :D

No need to chastise? Hell, I'll let you know when your're done!
