Looking back at the plan, How long are the runarounds? When switching will you be able to get around cars without too much trouble?
What's the typical cut length you think you'll be working with?

The shortest runaround will likely allow two boxcars or gons, or three hoppers max.  I kinda like that. I may just want to move cars one at a time.  If I can get my son to run then trying to manage two locos might be fun too.

Added girder bridge supports last night, making the elevated trusses ready to paint...

Sunday I finally connected the tracks and switches to the bus wires (powered frogs) and yesterday got the left side of the canal started with track and switches.











I ran trains for the first time!  This whole lower portion is only running on power from terminal joiners.

Today I finished that side and promptly ran out of wire so the right side of the canal will have to wait....





Next up is the other side of the canal.  Bridges have sliding terminals so i can remove them to finish the canal.  Going to muddy, brown it up some more, add debris and then liquitex the crap out of it.  Elevated truss tracks will be installed soon!

Gotta say my Bachmann 44 tonner runs perfectly over this trackage as does the K4.  Even my BLI E8 runs perfectly.

Thanks @Cajonpassfan . That runaround is very tight. Glad this is for short rolling stock only! Passing clearance is about 3/32"! No room for fingers... Lol.

Tonight I got the remainder of the track laid on the other side of the canal and on the lower surface of the lift-out extension.  Still have to connect it to the bus wires, but all of the drops are in and all of the frogs are wired.

Some time under the layout and boom!

Gotta say, while not as elaborate as @David K. Smith 's elegant double stick form tape cutter, I just slit the roll down the middel and laid the tape tape edge to tape edge along the center line.  Then I drag an Xacto buried into the foam with the wide flat against the ends of the ties and peel away the excess tape for a clean ballast edge. 





I like the way the second track ducks under the elevated mains and interchange siding in the distance.  Should provide some interesting photos, like a PRR flyover of sorts.
