Beyond my budget,

+1.  I'll be watching this from the sidelines.  Too bad, this sure looks sweet.

Maybe Victor will win this one!

I'm surprised it's only at $330

I might be more pressed to take my X-mas money and bid on it.

I'm interested in those other locos in the background of the photo.  Looks like two K4s, but I can't be sure.

It would be interesting to see what this guy uses for smokebox fronts...it looks really good.

The modeler who made that is the user Jonathan Vincent in this Trainboard thread, he explains some of the things done to make the E6:

Jon is a great modeler and all of those behind are K4's.  All including the E6 are Minitrix shells detailed using GHQ etched fret and cast bits  The mechs are re-powered with Bachmann motors.  The guy's road isn't even PRR!

John,  is the motor he used the one for the Bachmann 2-8-0? Also do you know what Bachmann tender he used?  Thanks

It sold for $493 with 12 bids. That's a lot of dosh.

Is this a fair price, under or over priced?

I don't want to sound like an A-hole, but I think that is a little high.

The work on the model is nice, but I just think there isn't that much work in it. When again I've never held the Trix loco in my hands...

Chris,

It only sold for what someone was willing to pay. Remember this had DCC. Maybe a little high for what you and I would pay but someone got what they wanted. Have seen custom detail and painted diseisles go for that.

Good luck to Jon.

Chris333, lots of work went into that loco, like mine, but you are used to scratchbuilding beauties.  You know us SPF's!

May seem high but I bet someone would pay dearly for your camelback!  :D

ehhh  I think I'm mostly seeing the finished shell. I'm just saying if you guys could get that much out of each one you are making you'd probably be starting on the next one to sell all ready.

Someone asked me to build them a camelback just like mine and they sent me the parts to get started, and I did start:
https://picasaweb.google.com/ErieChris333/ErieRailroadD4440CamelbackNScale
After a while I just got tired of working on it and asked if I could just send him mine (what he wanted to begin with). So yeah I sold him mine for about the same price as the 4-4-2 went for. (if you include the parts he had sent me) I dunno if mine was worth that much either, but like was said "it's what someone is willing to pay"

When I sold my 2-6-2 logging loco all I was hoping for was enough to cover the cost to build it. $90 atlas loco $70 gearhead motor and $7 for Kato caboose trucks. After all it was just sitting on a shelf collecting dust. So I was happy to get more than I paid for it.

I don't build things to sell.

If this was Max's 4-4-2 I would say they waaaaay under paid.

I see this 4-4-2 and think anything over $250-300 and I would just build it myself. I'm not mad it sold for much more and I bet the seller is happy. But it was asked and I spoke. How do you figure out what something is worth anyways?

Chris, I put three weeks straight into repowering and cutting the chassis just to get it to run.  Then another week to detail the shell, paint etc.  Jon did nearly the same but took a slightly different path.

Took me the same amount of time to do my B8a tank engine and if it weren't for a kind soul making me some decals, it might have never finished!  Now I have what I believe to be the only N Scale PRR B8a tank engine on the planet!  Ha!

I understand what you are saying though, when I take my kitbashes to a show there is always someone who want me to make them one.  My response is "You can't afford me."  LOL!
