I HATE IT  when the world ends and I miss it.... now I'll have to wait for the next time.... sigh

I finished the Canadian Pacific GP 9 passenger Geep project and overall I am pleased with the results. Short of missing the fact that I should have removed one set of louvers from the car body I think i got it about right... ( Yah for Puddy....)

Here's 8526's prototype shot:

http://cprdieselroster.com/Roster%20Archive/CP%208500A/CP%208526-3.jpg

Here's my model...........

I used an undecorated Atlas GP 9 shell w/ DB's. Many of the parts (Air tanks, Sinclair antenna, Fire cracker antenna, winterization hatch, steam generator dome, three chime horn) were from Miniatures by Eric. The brake wheel was an Atlas donation, the mu's by BLMA and the piping and vent were scratch made.

The paints (CP tuscan, slightly modifed, CP gray and grime black) are from True Line Trains and the decals are a Black Cat product with some Microscale odds and ends thrown in. I also added a crew; a couple of shaved down and painted Preisner figures.

The "Beaver shield" was applied to the nose of all passenger units (RS 10's, GP 9's) when they were built but with the new Action red livery in 1968 the shields tended to get removed, even if the unit had not been repainted yet. I chose to keep mine even through I model 1973 as I did see shots from the early 70's where units had escaped the "anti beaver borg" of the new CP Rail.....

I kept the weathering light as these units did see the wash rack more often than their freight only bretheren.. still; road dust and dirt are a must with me, and so is a sooty roof.

Here she is in service.....

This unit fills a hole in my roster; Steam Generator equipped Geeps were often seen heading secondary pasenger trains and would be frequently seen on the "Canadian" and "Dominion" when they had large consists to help lift the train through the mountains.... now my consists have another power option... just in time for Christmas.... !
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Geez Pud, for someone that thought the Maroon / Grey was beyond his skillset, you freakin' nailed it! Nice looking, unique geep. I'll be keeping shots of this on file for when I get around to building one (long way down the list). Not sure if any made unrebuilt that into 1987, but they did in my world.

Nothing from me... I made the mistake of laying a large oval of Unitrack and a few sidings on the floor and have been playing. Mostly stretching the legs of long stored power, which has highlighted problems with a large number of Atlas C630's that I have... drive shafts that slip at the connection to the flywheels making movement problematic if not impossible. Pretty sure that a little targeted CA will fix the problem, but just can't fathom how these can be so sh*tty out of the box and the RS-11 / RS-18 are so bullet proof.

Well, I did start building an old IM cylindrical kit that will be the guinea pig for airbrush and decal practice. How hard could it possibly be to paint it black and decal for CP Rail w/Multi?

Its best to just replace the male universal joint with new ones from atlas. They are 60 cents a piece. I use a tweezer to position the new one on the post, then use a wood chopstick to push it on.

My first entry this week... my annual homage to the trains to which we all owe a great debt of gratitude: Lionel.

This is a 1954 set originally owned by my uncle, so the set is 58 years old.  It is nothing fancy, nor was it anywhere near a top-of-the-line set even in its day.  But it runs beautifully, the whistle and smoker still work, and I have all the original boxes and papers (even the
sales receipt!).

I have not had it out for about 5 years, what with my upheaval and move to Oregon.  But my step children are old enough to handle it carefully now, so this year, it made its reappearance around the Chistmas tree.

I hope I look as good and function as well as this train when I am 58 years old!

I model in N Scale, but I will always love Lionel.

I will be making another entry this week when I get the photos prepared.  Let's just say it has to
do with the "SP&S" and steam.

Indeed.

Max, is that a #1666, or 2026?

Been working on putting the finishing touches on my dad's Christmas present, a Baltimore and Ohio DS4-4-1000 in HO.  I'll try to get pics prior to wrapping it, it's still in pieces at the moment.

Hmmm, interesting... I had the same issue with a post-2004 Atlas SD-7. Except, the universal was "split" on the shaft. Replaced it, but it is slipping again. Either split again or it was never fully seated to begin with... further investigation is needed.

Nothing big this week, but I did get some "dirt" down using Ian's sanded grout. I was worried the color would be too light so as it was drying I rubbed real dirt into it, but you can see the light areas around the edge so I'm not done. Also glued some scenery around the edges to see how the grout liked glue.

And since the grout was out I used it to mud in the area around the layout perimeter where it meets the hardboard:

In the background is the building with no name  :)
