IM CCS PRR FOM which is more correct
« on: December 17, 2012, 07:51:59 PM »

Since I recently bought 6 new Intermoutain Centralia Car Shops cars in PRR fleet of modernism  I looked at a 13DB I had picked up at a hobby shop a while back
I'm wondering which of the 2 paint schemes are more correct the older darker or the newer lighter almost faded look?
The new cars look like the paint has faded and you don't see all the stripes and can barely make out Pullman on the top IMHO

Are we allowed to use that many acronyms in one title?

No.

I'd say the one on the right, on the left... the darker one with more stripes.  (keep the orientation of the cars the same between pics, otherwise you get such helpful answers as the one I just gave) ; )

From all the photos i've seen, the darker one looks more correct for the Fleet Of Modernization (FOM) (that's for all you who don't know what it means).

My understanding is that the lighter one is actually closer to the prototype.  Personally, I like the darker one with the more distinct stripes.  On a side note, I'm not sure that I've ever seen two versions of the FOM scheme that match.  Are there any color photos that survive?  Everyone seems to be guessing.

The darker one is correct and a lot of effort went into nailing the colors.  Then Intermountain screwed up subsequent runs.

Or "PRR Streamline Paint" which is what a really SPF will let you know.

This topic was discussed in detail on the Yahoo PRR N scale and PRR Modeler groups beginning 8/24/2012

Fleet Of Modernism, not Modernization.

Yep, you got it correct.  Next time I check my references first.

:|         The only Fleet of Modernism scheme I have ever looked at on a model that looks correct to me is the one that Con Cor did unfortunately not on P.R.R. prototype cars, they even did a dome car E Gads! Why do I say the color looks correct, when I wasn't alive to view the prototype, and have only faided in some cases color photos to go by?They just look correct to me,when I purchased anumber of the Centrailia cars in this scheme they were way too dark, just as IM Centrailia got their SP Daylight scheme all wrong and had to re run cars.My Cotten Belt FP-7 in the Daykight scheme has a Salmon -colored orange stripe, and a way too light red body. Wish they would re do it.            Getting back to "The Standard Railroad Of The World",it would appear IM C decided to correct the too dark colors they had complaints about, but went too far in the other direction, really light. While we're on the subject doe anyone know when this paint scheme was last used.  I'm thinking into the early 50s but would like a year.
