Bummed about the 4740 cancellation. Thwey coulda done better if they put the correct scheme on the C&O Coil cars. The original run was very incorrect and they just copied it.

Weren't the X-29/ARA cars just reprints with new numbers?  I know the CGW cars were.  And I know they weren't worth $23 because I can find the first release for $6 apiece.

Please PM me with where that's occurring, I was gonna pick up a few.

I was really hoping for the Chateau Martin cars.  'Hope someone will do that decal at least.

Haven't looked at that site in a while.  Thanks for pointing it out.  I already have two of the cars I picked up cheap at the last Timonium show, ready to strip and repaint.  Excellent!

Yeah, I was bummed when they cancelled their run of BAR F3's in the dark blue several years ago.  C'est la vie I guess.

Mmmm.  Blue B&O F units!  Must resist the urge to weather them to within an inch of their lives... (Like Chessie did...)

Not too bummed about the 4740s... that Precision Masters tooling is getting long in the tooth... $25 was a bit much, especially considering the lack of lettering/info on the bays on some schemes... and the completer and total botch on the Chessie car.

A new 4740 would be great.
Consign the old 4740 & 4750 to a TrainMan level release.

A few months back IM had ads for their "coming" ACF 4650 cf CenterFlow, which those of us modeling the 60s and early 70s need.  So far I haven't found anything on their site, or heard any mention of it here.  Is that another cancellation that never made it to the announcement stage?

Cancellations
before production of models usually mean a lack of preorders.  Anybody who chose not to preorder should learn a lesson from this.  Generally roadnames need to be thought of as a 'trial baloon' without guarantee unless somebody steps up to the peorde4 process.

The era of waiting for excess inventory to appear on sale tables or aucton sites is over.  Manufacturers build to a number that will sell through quickly at MSRP (or the dealer discount price) and not linger in warehouses or lose value on dealer shelves.

Seems that Walthers will always have something in the monthly sales flyer, because there will always be slow moving items that need to be cleared to raise capital for new projects.  Sometimes manufacturers miss the mark low for reasons out of direct contol, such is the nature of contracting the actual manufacturing...
