Gotta say - at least Exactrail follows through and actually delivers new models, which you can't say about everyone else these days....

Just saying!!!   :D

Yep, dedicated service on exactly one route. CN and Ontario Northland both contributed cars to the pool, so this design was rostered by both.

There was also actually two sizes; a "long" and "short" version of the car.

2000cuft and 2300cuft versions, IIRC. Two paint schemes plus the Scale Test car(s).

Well.... they manufacture them but as for delivering them.... they certainly don't DELIVER them to LHS....(sorry; the obligatory cheap shot at their no LHS policy....carry on, nothing to see here)  ;)
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

With wrong roofs no less :P  As for new models not actually delivered, who hasn't followed through and delivered a new model?

Didn't the Algoma Central and later Wisconsin Central have similar car?

Best wishes, Dave
Pretty sure they did. I used to hang out by train station in Burlington Wi while daughter took gymnastics class in town,  remember cars with Great Slave Lake something or other on them being used for rock trains, about 25 of them per train hauling gravel to Grayslake Il. IIRC Interesting cars for sure,
Rick

If this is what you're thinking of, they are 'barrel' ore cars, but open hoppers.

I still want them to do the Evans 4780 in N scale. Their HO model is pretty nice.

Nope, as Mike showed, the Algoma Central cars were completely different. They had round sides like a cylindrical hopper, but they were open.

The ex-CN Great Slave Lake division hoppers are also not at all the same. These were flat-sided open hoppers originally for ore service:

Muwahahaha, and I put it there!    But seriously, in regards to the 85-foot flats I intended to reference, it's hard to be mad at Trainworx when it is cranking out so many new body styles in the meantime.  None that fit my era yet, but it does show hutzpah and creates edge-of-the-seat excitement for the potential of an announcement that I can use (hmm, like the 85-foot flats).

As for new models not actually delivered, who hasn't followed through and delivered a new model?

(Insert sound of crickets here)

I don't think pig trains were considered unit trains, per se.

Starting in the 70's there would be coal, grain, reefers (not many but can't exclude the Solid Cold or Tropicana unit trains), ore.  What else?  The SP sugar beet trains?  Wood chips?

The tank trains were iconic.  Maybe the NS "Big John" grain hoppers which I think were in use then.  Perhaps just a different body style for coal or grain hoppers.

Further out of the box, could we consider the Auto Train a unit train?  A rail train?

Could possibly be more TOFC equipment of some kind, I think that really started taking off in the 70's didn't it?

Chris, I'm having trouble finding any shots online and my book collection is in storage, but didn't CP have some barrel ore cars that found their way to Trail?

Edit: So the CP are slurry cars... similar but not the same.
