Getting closer ... (Keyser Valley Caboose)
« on: December 14, 2012, 11:19:10 AM »

One step closer to release of the first ESM "Made In America" item, the Keyser Valley Caboose kit.  The model components have been finalized.  The PVC nest is all that remains.  It should be a 2013Q1 release.

The rust-colored MTL couplers are too bright, so the coupler parts will be dark brown (darker than the standard MTL brown).

UPDATE: I remind everyone that these will be undecorated kits consisting of polyurethane resin, etched brass, and etched stainless steel parts.  OEM parts will include Atlas leaf-spring trucks and wheelsets, MTL Ajax brakewheels, MTL caboose smokestack, MTL couplers, Evergreen clear styrene, and MicroScale custom decals.  A steel weight also is included.  There will be two variations available - as built, and modernized.  The modeler will have to assemble, paint and decal the model.  Decals will be included to create at least two variants of each scheme.  Detailed step-by-step instructions will be on the ESM website.  This is not a difficult model to build, but care must be taken while building it.

That Conrail one (presumably the EL version repainted) is too cool.  I may have to get it just cause!

Sweet.  Definitely going to order one for my EL portion of the layout.

What's up with those screens?  Anti-vandalism measure?

The EL cabooses received mesh screens to prevent unauthorized entry into the cabooses as well as protection for the crews from flying objects suchs as rocks and bottles.  The EL ran through some pretty rough areas!

Those are beautiful. Not my region or era, but you gotta admire the craftsmanship. And made in America! Hats off to you, sir.

Both modernized and original configuration cars made it to Conrail paint, just as the EL cars did.  The modeler will have the option to decorate the model in any of the schemes desired.

Lots of options!  Multiple paint schemes per body style.  Many different "variations" in placement of the lettering too.
