You'll be done using Bestine inside three months.

Assuming you have a spare three months to clean the caboose that way. 

So this is what I'm going to do. I'm going to take a FUD model and sand/polish one of the sides until it's got a crystal clear shine. Then I'll let it soak in heptane for a few days. If the surface remains translucent (which I'll bet it will), that ought to rule out solvent damage.

I am in the camp that thinks the resin is clear but the process of production includes some particles of wax, even on a "waxless" surface. Removing this surface wax creates a jagged etch that creates the white color in the clear resin.

I personally think the etch effect will lead to better paint adhesion over an oily, waxy or slippery alternative. I also like the Future floor finish idea. This would help smooth and balance surfaces for casting.

I really, really need to learn how to design in 3D and try some of these ideas out.

How does water clean oil with no type of detergent or degreaser?  And as was noted the Bat car is a nice solid chunk with nothing to break.

I have a Z scale under frame that has a smooth clear area on it. I'll go toss it in the Bestine.

Hmmmm "I'll by fudding all day" and I got an e-mail saying my order #180226 is en route to the 3D printer today. Maybe katfudgirl is working on my order 

Mark W, I'm not saying anything bad about your designs. Just think if they turned out just like they look on your computer screen though. You and me would both be happier and I would order many more parts from Shapeways. (and I would learn 3D myself)

Perfect timing.  Got home today to find a package waiting that contained two G32C masters complete with the mold separation membranes rendered in XHD for casting purposes.



These went straight into the soup after the photo.  I'll check on them in a couple of days.

Mid spring, hopefully.  Maybe sooner.  Once the cabooses are released, the pipeline will flow.

BTW, keep in mind that only 100 or so of this class existed.  So realistically you only need one.   Save your money for MIA Car #4

The lines on the inside I think you're stuck with.  The texturing on the outside is what i'm hoping can be addressed with alternative cleaning methods.
