Paul, Cory at Atlas. Question About Ore Cars

The 70 ton ore cars are due 4th quarter of 2012. There's 22 days left to go.

Do you have any info when the ore cars will arrive?

Hmm... when are my
gummi termites going
to arrive...?

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

You'll probably get them after the middle of January. They were just popped into a container last Monday I believe.

Thanks! I'm waiting for 95 undecorated ore cars. Lotta painting and decaling to do next year :).

Hmm... while Kiz is at it,
maybe he can paint
my treehouse.

Oh, so you're the guy they bought the plaque for. I never knew we gave out awards to customers who place an order half of our total order of one item!

As one who always is curious of "How many of those things to they actually make?" its interesting to know they made about 200 undec ore cars.  That presumes Cory wasn't being totally sarcastic.

They probably were going to make 100 or less, but this one pre-order set "unprecedented demand".  Somehow, I doubt Atlas will be fooled into thinking that decaling and painting is making a big comeback, based on this one order.....

Good luck with custom painting almost 100 little ore cars.  I hope mass production makes the task a little easier!

On a separate supply wonder note - from Dec 1 to Jan 15 for arrival?  Wow, that really is a slow boat from China!  (Yes, I know they need to unpack and send to distributors, then shops, but I presume the biggest lag is the sailing time.  Just how many days is a typical ship from China to Long Beach?

You do know that the prototype wasn't introduced until 1973....  :)

Just kidding. What line are you modeling?

Best wishes, Dave

Raises the question, would it have been cheaper to contact Cory and have them add a personal run for you of 100 cars that are painted and decaled for your liking? If you figure the 4 or so dollars difference between decorated and undecorated, is something like this possible? It would be like just adding a run of roadname X to the other runs.

This would be a project I'd make a custom decal for - ie for an entire car side, sans the #'s
and then do another sheet of numbers.

He'll need 300 to do that!

I wish I had the money right now, the CV use to own about 100 CV painted boxcars for paper service. I figure I would need 60 - 80 for my layout. I could always sell the other 200 or so.

Do doubt!  Applying all those decals will be a tedious job!

Kiz has the tedium of mass-production projects down pat. You probably haven't been following his self-inflicted Intermountain kit project... how many hundred? (Or so it seems.)

I just hope I get all I ordered through Brooklyn Locomotive works. It seems they still had the order page operational after Atlas closed the reservations. Rats if I don't. I just hope Pete ordered plenty of undecs for stock while the reservations were still open.

Hmm... Kiz sold the
plaque to help pay for
the ore cars...

Let's see... 48 tank car kits, dozens of 40 and 50' box car kits, and even more dozens of 40' reefer kits. I know I did more than 150 kits since March of this year, not to mention all the MTL #1025 couplers I had to assemble for the cars. But to be honest, I still have 14 reefer kits, 13 box car kits, and all of the tank car kits to finish. The tanks are about 3/4s finished... I just dread putting on the railings around the tanks.

Hmm... just how plentiful
were 8000 gallon tanks
in 1971...?
