Brooklyn Locomotive Works say that Walthers has announced that they will be available in early December.

Funny. Two days ago that page said, "Cancelled due to lack of interest."

So Walthers went ahead anyway and made the engines. I wonder how long it will be before Walthers is out of stock.

Hmm... four days...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

Pete emailed me and he said they were being made and that he would ship them when he got them.  Between that and Walthers FB message to me I guess they are coming out.  Fast turn around once they figured out how upset we all are!!

I still want to see under the hood and see what if any changes have been made to the chassis.
But this all hinges on if  they really are.......................

The latest message from Walthers:

Walthers wrote: "Hi Brian, We wanted to update you (and other N Scalers waiting for the new SWs in the 920-80150 series) that they should be in stock and shipping from Milwaukee by this time next week – we originally anticipated they’d arrive by November 28, but the transit time took a little longer than expected. Sorry for any confusion!"

It remains to be seen just how friendly they will (or won't) be with DCC.  I think Walthers is missing the boat on their locos by not being as accommodating as Atlas and Kato with respect to DCC.  I am influenced by the ease of DCC installation, as I am not a whizz bang electrical wizard.  But I am learning and getting better!

I agree with you Bob, I won't be ordering until I find out exactly what the DCC situation is with it.

At one point they (Walthers) was going go the same route as they did with the RS2's and GP20's, where the board sorta "saddled" over the engine contacts.

What I don't want to see is the same setup as on the old SW... which was a miserable DCC install.

The second worst thing is a "delayed" DCC solutionlike with the GP20... The locomotive is released and then many months later the board is released.

Great. Now that I've ordered not one but two other switchers to take the place of the switcher I ordered but that was apparently not being produced ... it's being produced after all.

But at least the other two really are "DCC friendly."

Hopefully they utilize the same decoder as the Kato NW2.

If Bachmann can deliver 70-Tonners with built-in dual mode DC or DCC drive, there is no reson why these cannot be offered DCC ready, other than the effort required of the manufacturer/importer.

You make a good point Tim.

It's kind of interesting that so far no other manufacturer has crossed that "bridge".

Nothing on Klein's page.

Klein's doesn't post until its in the shop.

As for these, anyone have any idea how DCC friendly these are/might be?  Hoping easy, then I may pick up a pair to BN'ize

It's going to require a hard wired decoder just like previous releases.

As long as the one's I've ordered turn up I'll be happy.

The joys of still running on good old dependable DC  :D

Cheers,

If it's a hardwire like the others, I probably will pass on one for now.  I can do drop ins, but I don't think I'm ready for one of these.  Too bad, because I really would like one.  I guess I'll just think about it for now.
