Walthers SW9/1200 Status?

Odd, BLW is showing Walthers SW units as cancelled due to lack of interest but Walthers Website is showing a date of November 28th.  You would think I would trust the Walthers website but, it is Walthers, it is N scale, and they did cancel a other engines.

Hi Brian,
I read some where they were canceled for lack of interest?
Thought that was kind of odd for a good running Lifelike switcher??

"Lack of Interest" could mean "We're not interested in producing the things".

Seems that way a lot of times.   Rich

I'm finding this one hard to believe that it has been cancelled. They put time and money into this
unit to make some changes. Some of which can be seen in this photo. The low-pro wheels and
MT couplers.

This photo looks to me to be N scale just by looking at the couplers. Also that CN scheme has not
been released on any other run I've seen. So I'm still hoping that maybe the lack of interest was at
BLW and not Walthers. Now I may be wrong but I hope I'm not.
Link to Walthers listing.

The last that I had heard about them was that WKW was having problems securing manufacturing time in China and that WKW was delaying their appearance until mid 2013.

Initially, I was somewhat less than impressed with their slow speed performance on MRC 2400s with the pulse switch OFF.  I must admit that on the MRC 2800, they perform much better at slow speeds.  The one thing that I hope WKW will correct is the tendency of these things to pick the points on Atlas code 80 #6 turnouts and B-mann EZTRAK #4 (later version).

Personally, I'm happy to see these things cancelled. I'd ordered one when they were first announced as "DCC ready." Of course, that was later downgraded to "DCC friendly," and it was reported here last week it was still going to be a PITA to get a decoder in these things.

And of course, there was the little inconvenience of Walthers missing its original delivery date on these things by more than a year.

Far as I'm concerned, Walthers can take this little switcher and cram it. There are plenty other good options for me to spend my money on.

I sent an email to Pete at BLW, here was his response to my request for a status update:

"They have been cancelled"

I guess I will just have to buy the Kato NW2 in NP!

This just gets more interesting. I posted on their Facebook page on Nov 16th asking for an update. I just received an email from Walthers via Facebook advising the following:

Walthers wrote: "Hi Brian. Good news — all of the latest N Scale SW1200s (920-80150 – 80157) are in stock and shipping now!"

So, who to believe...................

And yet the Walthers website shows these all not in stock and the page as updated on Nov 29th.
What a way to run a business.

Pretty sure they were on display at Trainfest too.

Lots of changes at Walthers in the past few months.  Things are still shaking out.

Brooklyn Locomotive Works say that Walthers has announced that they will be available in early December.
