Bachmann 2-6-0.

Threw a Z scale coupler on the front and sunk it back into the pilot. Added a pilot deck and thinned the steps coming off the running boards:

And I shortened the drawbar about 1.5 scale feet:

And earlier a Disney 4-4-0 showed up in the mail. Man that thing is small! Wheel centers pop right out, well 3 of them did. Number 4 is in the freezer  :ashat:

I just finished this.

A rare GP7L.  It rides on switcher trucks.

Pilot looks good, but what are those slabby things holding up the handrail? ...never noticed before until this close up. Otto

That is Bachmanns cast metal boiler for you...  Same as their 4-6-0.  Guess I could replace them with GMM stanchions, but you know how much fun it is to drill #80 holes in cast metal.

Nothing really very noteworthy to report this week; been waiting almost two weeks for a delivery of Gatorfoam so I can get "benchwork" for the WR&N under way. The plan is now more or less locked in, although this does not mean things won't change by any stretch of the imagination. I printed the plan at 100% and placed it on the Gatorfoam base to see how things felt full size.

I'd be tempted to try notching the top half, toward the boiler, to make it slightly more stanchion-shaped. Might be risky, and might be as much trouble as drilling cast metal...

The helix is completed so I elevated the rest of the roadbed. Almost all of the "east slope" between Altoona and Gallitzin can be seen in this photo...

Started to lay code 55 for Track 4 from the top of the helix going east towards Altoona.

Two structures for the corner mod done; one new, one recycled....

An "A" frame cabin and....

The Del Cherry and Son Sporting Goods factory (bonus points if you "get" the name)... recycled from the old pike..

More in my Layout Blog......
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I actually have something to contribute for a change. I've started to build a Briggs Models M420, though have only progressed as far as cleaning flashing off the shell and other bits in preparation for assembly and have milled the donor B30-7 frame so the shell fits well and the large CN fuel tanks will now fit over the underbelly. I've also drilled holes in the frame for the new pick-up wires required to install the below frame detail but have yet to install the wiring. Milling was easy enough, thanks to having use of the stationary grinder and the drill press at work. Filing by hand doesn't seem like it'd be much fun.

I have to admit that this is a total baptism by fire, as I've never attempted any actual modeling before, so I'm taking my time with this. To his credit, Jeff Briggs has done such a admirable job with this kit, well thought out and executed, it almost seems easy.

Dude.
I haven't even had the chance to run my 2-6-0 on DCC yet and you're already making it look like a toy.
As Bill the Catt would say:  THHHPPTPPTPT!

Looking forward to all your mogul pimpin'!

A Bill The Cat quote!  What a coincidence: I just drew him for my daughter 15 minutes ago...First time in 30 years!

Anyway it was back to weathering the fleet this week.  3 units of heavy power and 11 covered hoppers for the Tadanac smelter hotshot from Cranbrook.

And a smattering of 40' box cars at the mocked up Slocan Forest Products sawmill.

This week's running tally: 75% of locos done and 40% of cars.

Have a great weekend
