traction tires

i have a b'mann 4-6-0 that has thrown a shoe, do i send it back to b'mann for replacmet or do i remove the other one and use bullfrog snot both sides?

Bachmann traction tires are $.25 a pair.  Order a bunch and replace both traction tires.  The rod is not connected to the traction tire equipped front driver so you don't have to disconnect the rod, just change the tire.  BFS will not give as much traction as a traction tire.  Have fun, Mark.

what good is traction, when the thing wont even move at all?

If it is real old B-man, i would consider retiring it to a local park !

The 4-6-0's have great pick up as-is. The tender picks up on all 8 wheels , and the loco picks up on at least 4 of its wheels.  Just order a set of tires from Bachmann and replace the old ones as Mark suggests. Should be an easy repair....Mike

    I've fixed loose traction tires for years using Krazy Glue applyed to the side of a needle and ran around each drivers edge between the traction tire and driver allowing the glue to seep between them.
I have quite a few steamers, GG1's and some diesels that I used this method on about 20 some years ago and all are still holding strong.
Also a perminent fix for Con-Cors J3a Hudsons glueing the surgical tubeing between the motor shaft and the main driver power shaft.
Still use Krazy Glue to this day for all loose traction tires.

The solution for he 0-6-0 is to put a better tender behind it. With all wheel tender pickup they run very good. These are still one of my favorite steam loco's to tinker with...



As far as the original posters question, order the traction tires from Bachmann if yours are stretched out too much. If they still seem to stretch on, then my suggestion is a little black acrylic paint under the tire before you install it. The paint will act like a glue without being so drastic as CA. It also won't attack the rubber tire.

Tony, an elegant solution. I'm curious about the drawbar.... Is he "loop" insulated to allow attachment to the split frame? Can't tell from the photo...
