It's a winter issue where frozen train lines and low temperatures make it difficult for the headend to keep brakepipe pressure, and takes longer to recover from an application. Air repeater cars put an additional source of air towards the middle or rear of train to negate the temperature related air issues.

DPU's have pretty much made these redundant.

Always thought using a container for this made more sense.

Here's a couple of my favorites. FIrst an SP Golden State Horse car.


And this is a heavy load I used to justify stretching a depressed center flat car.

Did you just use thee diesel decals for the LS&I unit?
I was planning on using a MT steel caboose for one.

Yes, I used the diesel decals. So far I only needed the decals for the U30C but I have a U23C on my workbench which will be painted in red.

Great stuff!  :D The only completely unusual piece of rolling stock I have is my kitbashed TTRX 2-28'/1-57' spine car, at least until N Scale Kits releases theirs. Until they do, this could possibly be the only one in N scale existence. :?

A couple "semi"-unusual pieces of rolling stock are my TTEX "Long Runners", which are made by from an AC Models kits (now NSK). I also have one made from joining two MT 89' flats (not pictured)....

Triple 53/Long Runner. The JB hunt platewall trailer on the left is scratchbuilt. Does that count too? :D....


Triple 57/Long Runner. This version has the bulge where the spanning trailer's bogies sit....

Kitbashed UP CA-1 from a Micro Trains CA Harriman.  Not perfect, but close.  I'm working on a "perfect" one which involves scratch building new platform railings, brake wheels and ladders. These won't be "unusual" on my layout, but UP CA-1's are not currently available in N-scale, so I guess it qualifies as being unusual.
