Yes...yes a video runby of the grain train is just what I need today.

Scott, hate to see the Skoonka portion of the layout go but a little more operation might be nice as well. I haven't been to Ashcroft in a while, do these industries actually exist there?

What kind of issues are you having with your hidden staging?

All of the turnouts are semi-hidden, and occasionally I get a derailment going into staging.  It often drags some distance before causing havoc.  Taking the scenic cover off is possible, but not easy, and I don't have a convenient place to put it while I work on the derailment.

Oh, and how about a video runby of your grain train?   :)

No video yet and photobucket has conveniently locked me out.  My prose will have to do  :D

That tie treating plant is on the CP line but might be just the thing for some interesting action.  It is located just east of the terminal so easily brought into the concept.

Here is a quick and dirty video.  The sound sync went out at some point so it is a bit disjointed.  Take that H0

Been there a few times.  Beautiful drive from Washington.  Isn't it technically Cache Creek?

Cache Creek is off the river a bit to the north.  Ashcroft is right on CN and CP lines.  You have to turn off the highway to go into Ashcroft.

That video was neither dirty nor quick. That's some impressive sound from N scale engines. I didn't know Kato or Fox Valley had done sound in those.

Excellent!  But CN would have never squandered 2 units in 17 cars.

It was kind of rough, I only have the basic movie making software on my laptop.   None of the locos are sound-equipped- I prefer the full train sound and not just the locomotives.  I admit when you get the full sound of a train like I have done here it enhances realism, but I would not want it live in the room.

You never know when a unit will shut off, always be prepared! :D    (I do have three more cars on the work bench, and many of those in the train  need some grunge-love)

It has been a while.  I had a really nice trip to BC to visit with fellow TRW folk, and a perfect day in the Thompson and Fraser canyons.  It was a blistering 35 deg C at Cisco.

All the rivers were at full discharge from recent flooding rain and snow melt.  There was a forest fire in the background at Cisco last year, so I guess my layout is now fixed in 2016!

After a long hiatus, I spent some time this week working on Skoonka.  The 3D prints finsh up nicely with a coat of heavy primer spray paint, a light sand, some spackle for imperfections, sand and final paint.  I have all but one portal completed and installed, along with the first layers of gravel and sediment on the roofs and surrounding area.  I build it up in layers using different materials, so these shots are very much in progress.  Everything is mostly wet to it will lighten up as it dries.  The spackle is pink when wet too.

I'm leaning towards permanently removing the scenic cover for the staging.  It is too much hassle to have in place for inevitable derailments.  I'll extend the backdrop and finish the top of the canyon scene to mask it from track level.

This is what it will look like (mostly) when complete.  There are a few scrub plants in the scene and of course the river.  The rock sheds all need weathering too, but I'm happy with the look so far.

Breathtaking, Scott. A little 1:1 time to get the juices flowing again, eh? :D
