Here's an example of a recent mini-fail, and what I did to recover from it. I was starting on the roof for part of the Rearden complex: the Piko kits required three new roofs. I had saved the roof parts from the three Vulcan kits that covered the (incomplete) overhead crane included in each kit. They were perfect--just needed to trim them down to size. I carefully measured one side of one peak, then cut all of the roof parts to that width. Except... I made the measurement on the middle peak, which is sandwiched between the end buildings, and is thus narrower. So I now had roof parts that were too narrow for all but one section. What I ended up doing was attaching strips of Evergreen styrene to all 6 parts in such a way that they formed a ridge cap. It was not a detail I'd intended to bother with, since most of the roofs would be covered with snow, but it was still faster and easier than starting over with something else.

I tell people the same. If I screw something up I don't go taking a bunch of photos of it to post online.

One thing I will say about this industrial layout. I'm used to making everything 3 sided, usually without a back wall since that is how most of my layouts are built. With this layout being 360 degrees you can't have any bad sides to hide. It is all the "front" depending on where you are looking from.

I doubt they'd have been interested in the giant doughnut...

Nom nom nom...

And as for the  modeling wins helping spirits when dealing with health (and other) issues, been  there, doing that, +100.  Keep up the fantastic work, DKS (assuming the overinflation of your head does not prevent you from seeing such fiddly little things...)

Oh yes, I keep forgetting to tell you guys about my N scale layout. Man its big, lots of structures, plenty of grass and pavement and cars and people. The only reason I don't show anyone is because of Chris' rule of photo sharing.

Don't take photos of the crap!!!    :-X

Seriously, no layout yet but me thinkst it takes more and more courage to share anything here thanks to the Davids and Chris' of the N world.... They rule, I drool.

Hey, I like that

I'm not worried about the criticism in the least. When I get started, and then share photos, its the laughter I'll hear clear across the country that has me shaking!!!
