I think this building should be condemned. There's serious metal fatigue in all the load-bearing members, the wiring is substandard, it's completely inadequate for our power needs, and the neighborhood is like a demilitarized zone.

Finally cobbled together something for the firehouse.

I have nothing against Building #2, but I will be the dissenting vote and say that I might consider Building #1, even if only for the large rectangular areas on the facade above the first and second floors' windows/doors that will allow room for signage for the Fire Department.

ditto davefoxx,  There was an article in N Scale Magazine about 15 years ago about converting that very building into a fire station.  While the second version looks good too, to me, the Otto's Parts building just screams fire station.

That's a valid point and it's the reason I would consider the first one (Otto's).

I mean that's how these buildings were done in real life, you ended up with a hodge-podge of architectural styles all miss-mashed together.  Having a building in there that doesn't (as strongly) resemble the other buildings creates a strong contrast, which I think is good when viewing the scene.

Which is exactly why I would go with the second one as well. According to David earlier in the thread, Jersey City doesn't really have anything that stands out among the rest; they're all pretty bland and generic. In fact, I'd wager even the round-top windows are a bit more out there than the feeling of Jersey City. But you are true about Otto's Parts being a departure, and it really wouldn't stick out that much, so really, either way works great

I'm diggin' the second one precisely because it's so mundane.  Feels right at home with the rest.  Man, I am so loving this layout.
