I'm always amazed at how well thought out your layouts always are.  Everything is mapped out just perfectly with 100% attention to detail.  And the idea that this is a multi-era layout is simply amazing.  Looking forward to watching this come to life.

The building that used to be where the pencil manufacturer is now has been bashed to become the gas station:



It was inspired by this historic image:



and this image is in fact how the pencil company came to be, and why I played musical structures.

The gas station is wedged under the railroad bridge that will be there, and this is how things will eventually look:

Looking good David.  I love the photos you're digging up; I have always had a fascination with mid-century urban landscapes and could see doing a small pike inspired by it - once Tehachapi BC is further along.

I've been researching period signs and billboards for the layout, and something in this photo caught my eye. Celestial Seasonings Herb Teas in 1935? I don't think so... the company was founded in 1969! Unless it's supposed to be a joke (like so many other industries on his layout)...

I like to count rivets and all, but that is not the layout to bother.

DKS nice conversion in the State Farm Supply kit.It took me awhile to figure what kit you started with  But, now I have an excuse to buy another kit.

Door #2.  Definitely.  It's more in keeping with the building fronts of the other buildings.

Are you going to reuse the roll-up mechanism?

DKS I like the second one! Best....     Looks much closer to the prototype and as a bonus it dresses up the model space with alittle architectural design.     meaning (every building feature characteristics will not look the same)
