I do not think it would have been difficult for either P&W or MLW to scrounge up some old B trucks for the M420R's... lots of RS-3 getting retired in that era and many traded in to builders. Not saying units were traded in on the P&W order, but there would have been a decent surplus supply around then.

Heck, it probably wouldn't have been hard to get new B trucks back in 1975... Dofasco's for sure

I've read about some roads would buy other roads dead Alco's (cheep) just to trade them in.

There is a prototype for using these on US shortlines - the Oil Creek & Titusville's 'main power' (they are affiliated with New York & Lake Erie, an Alco-lover if there ever was one)
Note the only reporting marks are under the locomotive number - NYLE.  This is in northwest Pennsylvania, south of Erie, PA and north of Pittsburgh.

Given the yellow/black paint scheme, this one went to the SLA Quebec after CN retired it. Another US user (I assume they crossed the boarder), albeit for only a short few years.

The first entry is an error but the rest fit very well with the models that are to be released.

I can at last model CN 2574 from 1985.  The photo was taken as we departed Italy Yard in St Albans.  I still have the extra flag from the engineer's side.  The left side flag nearly hit me as it flew past my window.

There are 2 other options for me, this one is in storage on the M&E, likely a parts source for the 3573 which is on the M&E owned Maine Eastern.  The 3573 has never been to Morristown and is one of the few M-420s still in New England.

There are a lot of options for these fine looking models, both the BCR and CN versions.

Glad to see that you have a legitimate opportunity to build one or more of these kits.  I look forward to seeing your results with it.

I saw Jeff this morning and took delivery of my five kits.  I also borrowed his built up sample to photograph and will be posting a formal product announcement on his behalf shortly.

I better get my M-630s finished so I can start on these!  My motive power department is going to be happy . . .

Hi
After 3 months on the Pacific Ocean, my Brigg's M-420 arrived this morning.

Although it'll be a while before I get into the project, I couldn't wait to see how the M-420 shell would fit on the Atlas/Kato U-25B chassis, as I was a little nervous about my choice.  Fits perfectly without any mods.  I will have to remove the flat sill that runs the length of the Kato chassis, before I can get the kit's frame to work, but it's looking good so far.    I chose the Kato chassis as it doesn't rely on the long contact strips.  They are getting old now, but are great runners.

My M-420 is sitting on my desk here at work.  even without any bits on it, it looks real, real good.

Southern Railroad of New Jersey has two M420s.
Although some goon who works for them bought every single N scale set of Microscale SRNJ decals, and refuses to sell them to anyone. I also highly doubt he plans to use them all.
