Check this out...... Rods and pipe hangers and a bunch of other parts for our 3800 class came in mail from Loren Perry of Gold Metal Models!!
The rods are to convert kato Mikados to 2-10-2 and 4-12-2!!  Anyone interested in rods?

Cooling pipe hangers..... Ever had a difficult time spacing and hanging cooling pipe?

Heh, well you already know I do Jason, so just let me know where to send the money and how many
you'll let me have.  I suspect you will have more people wanting these than you have sheets, so you'll have
to decide some way to parcel them out.  I'll be grateful for whatever you can sell me.

Wonderful work!

Ok my bad I should have described cost.....   I looks like the rods will need to cost $20 for the first srt of rods and $10. Per each additional set.  I know it sounds high but this is not a production run and you are looking at the only sheet made.  Also the rods are not copies of the kato design they are specific to rhe engine class.  Also kato rods are no longer available simply cut and splice.

I can also include a urethane frame casting that will eliminate the need to cut up a stick mikado frame to add bearing boxes for an addtional $10.

Whats a "srt" of rods?  A "set"?  How many rods in a set?

Sorry thats me typing on my phone!! Please excuse other typos

Ok... in my excitement I did not make the situation clear. This is not a standard GMM sheet where you get numerious items.  The sheet shown in the picture is the only sheet in the world.  The rods you see are the only rods in the world.  Although you can likely buy this sheet for about $400 I dont think anyone can really afford that.  Each right and left rod is $20.  If you want additional set ls its $10 per right and left rod.  These sheets have an very high set up cost by the etcher.. outsourced.  The cost of set up was graciously coved by Loren Perry GGM but I do not want him to have any cost and I want to pay him for for his time.

Please dont take it the wrong way I just wanted to clarify.

I will try to figure up the cost for hangers and additional part.

To help Jason clarify the situation here - The cost of doing these TWO sheets (one brass, one nickel silver, each about 12 inches square) was about $400.00 to cover the costs of making the photo-tool (films), setting up for etching, shipping, and etching the metal plus the cost of the two metal types. I am not counting the hours of design time I put into it - that's on me. It was not a mass-production items so the cost is higher than normal. There just aren't enough dedicated steam scratchbuilders in N-scale out there to justify my adding these parts to the GMM line. I did this just for you and me. We're the rare fanatics who appreciate this kind of stuff.

I covered the cost of this project and Jason will reimburse me with cast resin 3800-class boiler shells and tender bodies. Any additional funds received, if any, would be appreciated, but I won't hold my breath. Of course if it paid for itself eventually, it would keep me interested in considering an occasional future project of a similar nature.

I stuffed as much as I could on the sheets. This prevented me from separating them into convenient little packages like you buy at stores which would cut the parts yield enormously.

Three styles of pipe hangers are provided to choose from - 1. flat with etched grooves for pipes; 2. perforated for pipes to be threaded into; and 3. a hybrid with one perforated hole for one pipe and notches for the rest. All have provisions for attachment under running boards. They are all provided in 5-, 4-, 3-, and 2-pipe arrangements. If needed, bigger ones can be cut down into smaller ones. And the sheet has many hundreds of each. Jason would be the one to divvy them up and distribute them with his resin castings. There are many other parts on the sheets that Jason didn't show you, but I'll let him decide what to do with them.

The drive rods are all nickel silver about .015" thick (same as Kato's rods.) Although they look yellow in Jason's photos (due to lighting probably), they are actually the same silver color as Kato's. All are perfect drop-in fits and will slip onto Kato's drive wheels and pins perfectly - I tested them on mine to prove it. You'll see a few rods with etching flaws. There aren't many of these in the batch, so Jason will be able to weed those out. Being a one-time small order, Quality Assurance was not up to GMM's usual standards and I didn't take the time or expense to run test sheets and make changes. In other words, this was a "first draft". But the good ones in the batch really are good. And even the not-so-good ones would work fine on a model as long as you kept those macro-lens cameras a safe distance away.
