What Era Are You Modeling?

I have pretty much every era covered,early/late steam,transition,CR/NS/CSX just after the merger,stacks,racks,pretty much no era I can't cover mt RR with for an OP session,but my primary interest is Northeast Pa,Scranton/Wilkes Barre area,early 70's,LV,RDG,CNJ,EL,D&H,ETC,saw all from my bicycle in my hometown as a kid..

For my modules, I'll run anything that will function--which is often a disappointingly small portion of what I own. 

If I ever do get around to having a layout, I'll be modeling an alternate "now," where merger mania has been dialed back a few notches.

A slightly larger-than-life KB&S has become a major component of the MidStates Transportation (MST) network (similar to the Koester/Allen/King "Appalachian Lines" concept) along with the Monon, the TP&W, and the (fictional) Dayton & Western. Conrail and Illinois Central are still independent Class One roads, having avoided assimilation by CSX/NS and CN respectively.

In that environment, most equipment will be up to date, but older equipment will tend to stick around longer, as there's a greater diversity of services being provided by the greater variety of service providers.

And of course, there are always museums and fantrips for the really obsolete stuff (like the KB&S RS-11s that I was going to get).

Hmmm  I picked 1948 as a perfect year. A few years after that and steam was gone from the Erie.

But I definitely don't model pasted 1960

I have two focus points.  No layout as of yet so I can go either way depending on my whim at the time.  But I'm interested in the PRR Buffalo line roughly from Renovo up through Machias or Arcade Junction.  Time period is the mid-late 1950's, probably 1956 or '57.  Steam is easy to find, but fading, diesels are pouring in with a nice mixture of early and late 1st generation units.  The other focus point is the same area but current day with the WNY&P running ALCos and NS unit coal trains with modern GE's and EMD's.

One of these will probably win out over the other but right now I don't know which.

Nothing specific yet (multiple personality disorder???)  
I'd like to build a fairly modern 00-ish freelanced based on locations I grew up (Oakland, Central Valley, Feather River-Reno) Mostly modern UP power but have Zephyr and New Image WP (mid 60s-81) the CZ, and El Cap with an FP45.  I spend a lot of time in SoCal now so LA, San Diego have possibilities too.
