Atlas RS-11 in KBS paint has been cancelled?
« on: September 27, 2012, 11:01:12 PM »

I called Wig-Wag today about my order placed back in June, and they told me that the locomotives had been "cancelled by the manufacturer."

And Atlas's site apparently has been Stalinized, in that there's no mention that KBS RS-11s had ever been an option.

But I thought the last we heard here from Atlas, the KBS (along with some other schemes) had been delayed and was coming "in the next container." So which is it?

I would say if Atlas removed them from the list, consider them cancelled. Or, they never existed, and you are spreading vicious lies  ;). Very Orwellian, isn't it?

Back in early '11 I was told that the undec high-nose C420 had been cancelled, but I see that they re-listed them. :|

Well, there's always the Wayback Machine!
http://web.archive.org/web/20110705125811/http://www.atlasrr.com/NLoco/nrs11c.htm

(July 11, 2011 announcement sheet from Atlas that listed the KB&S version).

That is a pretty easy paint job and you could make the yellow decals with a laser printer if they are unavailable.

Yellow is almost impossible to print on a laser printer.....it needs a white background. Now one could CUT the decals out of yellow trim film (if the correct shade is available) using a Silhouette cutter. Just a thought. Still, this seems a bit odd with all the obscure road names that Atlas has produced over the years.

Best wishes, Dave

Did you try the Buy Now button on the Wayback Machine?   8)

I've considered a variant of this--printing on white decal paper with a color-matched border, then using the Silhouette to cut about half a scale inch outside the lines. But I haven't had a chance to experiment with it yet.

And if I do, it won't be on RS-11s. I was buying those because they were KB&S, but if I have to letter my own I'm going for more modern (and possibly fictional) power, not the antiques.

I think you need the Buy it Then button.....hmmm, wonder if that would work for Apple stock! :P
Gary, what you and I could really use in our professions is a time machine.

That is a simple scheme to paint. There are a few of us on here with an Alps that could print those declas if needed.

I really like my RS-11 in Northern Pacific too, but that was before Atlas jacked up the price.  I would have ordered a KBS unit if the price was more in line because an old friend of mine worked for them, plus they run in my area and are fune to see.  But I just have an issue with Atlas pricing re-run after re-run for so much more than other companies more limited runs.

You'd think that by now you'd have stopped beating that poor dead horse of "oh my god my luxury hobby items have gotten more expensive"...

Seriously. Get over it. Prices increase for reasons, and I guarantee you it's not so that Paul and Cory can go by themselves Bentleys.
